A wee bit of Chili flakes or white pepper to give the stovies a bit of a kick is fine.  Not traditional i know but adds a new dimension to the humble bowl of stovies.

If you’re going down the Chilli route, you’re in Bombay Aloo territory

I think in most cases, black pepper would be added, however for that extra punch, white pepper is recommended.   i think the addition of curry powder,curry  leaves or turmeric would give you the Indian version, not chili. .
