What Went Wrong On Aberdeen-Mad?

Disappeared up their own arses.

Banning me for nothing without explanation was a morally bankrupt thing to do.

I destroyed SFE in revenge.

He even had 'Oh Jimmy Jimmy' come on here begging me to call off the dogs.

Had he provided the explanation asked for, there would have been no problem.

So he personally is to blame for the shit state of the website.

I don't read the board so i can't comment on the content itself, but i can critique the running of the network.

The majority of the issues are outwith Ab-mad's control.

Fundamentally, ab-mad does not control the underlying site. It's part of a network which is run by a for-profit media company. Besides from the moderation of the local board and some content freedom, ab-mad has no control of their own board.

We have complete creative freedom.

The lack of foresight or unwillingness to invest, develop, update, improve, reinvent and redesign is a major part.

We've gone through as many as 3 style changes and complete redesigns and complete software upgrades while the footy-mad network stood still in the 1990's.

The network was an eye-sore for so long. It was difficult to read, post and navigate. You want to make it as easy as possible yet Footy-Mad managed to get those fundamentals backwards.

Footy-mad was too late to finally come into the new millennium which was too late for many.

They had stupid simple issues plaguing the site like being unable to upload a profile picture for months if not a year, to something essential to a forum like a search function that didn't work

The Hat has the advantage of being an independently run forum.

We make just enough to pay the server bills and licensing costs and that's it. We don't care for profit which is why you don't have mobile pop-up's hijacking your browser opening up the AppStore, or paid-for-content at the bottom of the page.

We're constantly updating and adding things.

Look at our problem and suggestion sub-forum. Issues are fixed usually within a day and feature suggestions are added frequently and timely. In comparison, ab-mad's Editor can't make additional features or make additions to the underlying code.

He can't fix issues posters are having. He has to forward complaints or bugs to the guy running the place and hope he's not counting his money from all the ad revenue to get a reply.

It's not Ab-mad's fault. It's their platform. Footy-mad were too inactive to fix issues and too ready to exploit their boards for profit.

Who was the boy that wanted to cave your face in with a claw hammer? He was funny.

Forgot his name, but not my proudest moment. He had problems in real life involving his family, I think (I later discovered), and me being a cunt to him didn't help.

Nowadays I tend to keep in mind that there's a real person on the other side of the screen, so now I just stick the worst offenders on block rather than ripping on them.

probably more to the point (from an outsider's point of view, since i'm not a Mad user), the admins here are, as you've noted, responsive and technically proficient and get shit done, and the mods don't over-moderate.

you all do a great job. :trophy:

I was posting there for a good while but have pretty much given up on it. A few genial old time posters asides, the site has been overrun by a small clique of hectoring self rightous fuds. A lot of folk have deserted the place because they can't stomach interacting with them.

The only pass mark I would give is the long running hun threads, as there are a few folk in the know posting good stuff there. Even then the clique fuds spent half the last one berating the OP because the thread title wasn't 'cool enough' Fucking twats.
