Rooney was playing in an odd position for most of the game yesterday. Thought he had a bit of a stinker, but he can play shite and score the winning goal every single week for all I care.

17 goals so far this season is a cracking return.

 

So form or no form he is doing the business.

He's not playing well however he's got 17 goals and it's not even March yet.

Since Shearer in the 90's I can only think of McGinn getting a better total than 17 goals.

I'll accept an off form Rooney over the dross that we've put up with over the last 20 years.

Could easy be argued Rooney has scored the most goals out of any striker in years for Aberdeen cause he's getting more chances than any other striker we've had in years.

 

Does he convert most chances? I'm not sure.

What kind of form do you expect of him?

I'd rather an off form Rooney who pops up with a goal every couple of games than most other strikers in Scotland who are possibly "on form" but still score less goals than he does.

Many a striker has made a great career off playing shit for 85 minutes but magic for 5 minutes and getting a goal every game.

The chance Rooney missed dropped just slightly behind his stride. Harsh to judge him as being poor just for that one fraction of a seconds miss timing. He still gets in pretty much all the right places to get goals. Good goals or not. Plus he even tried to pull off a couple of overhead kicks lol.

On or off form you do not drop him cos you never know when he's going to score but on percentages alone he will be among the goals more often than not.

 

We know exactly what we're getting with Rooney & other than a couple of Celtic strikers, I wouldn't want ANY other striker in the league in our team ahead of him.

 

He's been labeled "off form" for pretty much most of this season yet is still on 17 goals lol

 

Yeah he's certainly not been at his best but he STILL gets in the right places, still chases in on EVERY shot at the keepers. He is THAT kind of player.

He is a striker. He is scoring goals. But he isn't persuading you?

He is scoring goals that are actually winning us games. It would be great if he were a goal scoring machine, but if he was he would be playing at a higher level.

 

You have to appreciate his contribution - any club in the SPFL (except perhaps celtic) would love to have him in their squads.

His movement and touch haven't been great, his link up play has been awful in the time I'm talking about. I don't think ive seen him win a header since august 2016 either. It's not just about goals for me. If he was pulling his weight like everyone else we'd be better off.

Neil Alexander. Obviously Storey, or Stockley are options. But with the amount of chances McLean and Hayes are creating just now I'd play McGinn.

You don't need to scrutinize him it's pretty obvious. Admittedly the whole team weren't great but Rooney never won one:header, he held nothing up and brought no-one into play. I reckon that's the main reason we struggled, any team would when your reliant on a lone frontman.

It doesn't exactly help when you have the combined passing ability of Reynolds and Taylor disrupting the flow though.

 

McGinn and Hayes were off the boil , - it's a team game.

 

Granted, Rooney isn't much of a ball player but he works hard for the team. His movement is good and he has that predatory instinct , there are games when he links up well and wins headers.

 

Ultimately, he scores goals and that seems to be enough for the vast majority of our fans , the staff and the manager.
