Aberdeen 1 - 1 Nk Siroki Brijeg

Recommended Posts

I didn't want to post last night as i was frustrated after what was a promising first 30 minutes!

Where do i start.... does the squad number 5 come with a curse? o'connor looked like a minor bomb scare at times, Lacked composure and at times tried to play it out rather than just get it clear! Reynolds didnt look sharp either! i dont think either of these two players can play the full season at CB and therefore i really think we need two centre backs! although getting one in would be a bonus!!

Kenny Mclean.... where was his performance he put in the second half of least season? was a passanger. However, was still picking out a few key passes that could easily break down defences.

Considine.... Been a great servant for years and a fantastic left back for the last few seasons. But i finally think hes slowing down and if i were derek id put shinnie into left back next week, considine in with reynolds at CB and o'connor in CDM behind Tansey and Mclean.

The rest of the squad played well (Bar one) and we should a good attacking promise at times, but we ran out of steam in the second half. The players came out from half time still looking tired, red and sweaty from the first half. We need a good few conditioning sessions this week, especially with the potential 30 degree heat in Bosnia.

Rooney...... Il probably get slated for this as hes been a great striker for the club since he joined and you cant fault him. But last night, he did F**K all. his touch was poor, his winning the ball was poor, his header towards goal was poor and he looked like a man lost and confused. But he must start next week for the sole reason if we have a half chance anywhere in the box and hes near hand, he will bury it.

Plenty of positives too last night though. GMS looked good until he ran out of steam. Logan looked fantastic as always. And ryan christie...i need to say nothing! The subs mostly played there part. Miles Storey looked up for the challenege even though he only got 5 minutes. Greg Stewart looked a real threat and was unlucky with his strike late on that was a yard past the post/crossbar. Maynard wasnt convincing but its his first compettive game so il give him the benefit of the doubt.

The ball is firmly in Sirokis court and they will now be favourites to progress. WE MUST get the first goal to put the pressure on them. Otherwise i fear we will become another statistic in what will be another embarasing scottish exit from the Europa League!

Lets get a win, a big tie in the 3rd round and have an atmospheric night at pittodrie in two weeks time!!

Siroki official club web report google translate

"Blue and White" were left undefeated in Aberdeen and with great optimism awaiting repurchase at Pecara. The Scottish representative was famous for his big favorite, but after 90 minutes at the Pittodrie Stadium, the result was 1: 1, which is certainly "water on the mill" to the Widescreen.

As expected, Aberdeen had an initiative at the start of the match, but without exceptional occasions. Then, in 13 minutes, Bilobrk stopped an attempt by Christie from the free-throw, and two minutes later, Shinnie, to take Christie in the 17th-throw fractured ball, well received and scored 1: 0.

Rooney immediately had a 2-0 chance, but he was not precise. It was wide to come in 25 minutes and Begonja could settle, however, the remainder was 1: 0. He had a good chance in the finals of the first part, Menalo, tried to master Lewis with a blow, but the ball went past Aberdeen's door.

Bilobrk rescued "Blue and White" with brilliant interventions after the breaks of Logan, and then in the same action and Shinni, that, on the other hand, in the 69th minute Markovic eurogold brought equalization and great joy to "Blue and White."

By the end of the match, Aberdeen had possession and occasions over Maynard, Tanseya and Stewart, but Shiroki played bravely and did not allow the host's new lead. Moreover, Krstanovic could completely shock Aberdeen in the 84th minute, but his shot was defended by Lewis.

I hope mclean has not downed tools then - cos we didnt sell to the Rangers. Surely not !

Lack of enough matches is now a hindsight question , Celtic seemed to have played lot more.

Looks like we got a lot wrong.

Ordabasy were a better organised side who passed the ball well , but had little up front. ( watched both games)

Our problem seemed to be lack of organisation.

Christie, Logan and GMS were the only ones who got pass marks for me last night. The rest need to tighten up and quickly. McLean, Rooney and Considine were particularly woeful.

I'm not wetting the bed quite yet. We looked like a team that aren't used to each other and are playing a competitive game far too soon, because we are. They weren't a good side and we were our own worst enemies last night with slack passing and piss poor defending. Their keeper also decided to play a fucking blinder the 2nd half. We'll beat them next week.

EDIT: Obligatory referee was shite comment.

Very disappointing result, especially on the back of me lording it over the huns at work all day.

Yes they were not world beaters, but lets not forget they could have easily had another goal or two.

Our best display would trump theirs, no doubt, but I am hesitant to be confident about having to chase the game next week, away from home in up to 30 degree heat.

At least there is no ambiguity about the task in front of us, meaning the team should be motivated.

My heart says we will get our act together and win 1-0 over there, but my head isnt so sure.

Always been a massive fan of McLean but he can fuck off. Second season in a row he has come back after summer and looked well off the pace. With the additions we have made he is no longer good enough to be first choice.

Logan once again shite for their goal, doesn't close out quickly enough and when he eventually does he turns his back. McLean's decision making on the ball in the build up also cost us there.

We didn't handle their shape at all in the second half, their wing backs were always free because Logan and Considine were sucked in to help O'Connor and Reynolds. I think we have to go like for like over there.

Any suggestion of Shinnie playing left back are nonsense, our midfield disappeared when he moved further forward.

Rooney cannot start over there. They played a high line and GMS and even Storey briefly caused them problems just by being willing to run in behind.

Team for next week: (3-4-3)

Lewis

O'Connor Reynolds Considine

Logan GMS

Tansey Shinnie

Christie Stewart

Maynard / Storey

anyone confident for next week? I'd say I was confident for the season going by the signings and assuming we are targetting defenders but not confident at all that they can gel by next week

50/50 on this now. I thought we would do the job at home to make the away leg a bit easier

Any signing we make between now and the away leg are not eligible to play, so we've got to go with what we've got.

Considine has been slow for years and I didn't think he could get any slower...

It's why he doesn't play in the middle as his pace is massively exposed through the middle. He was exposed yesterday without Hayes.

No way should he be put in the middle.

I think it was evident last night this team were ahead of us match sharpness wise and fitness. We done well in spells and a draw was probably a fair result.

I thought O'Connor & Reynolds done fine and although we do need a central defender it was McLean and Rooney who let us down. McLean countless times gave the ball away and pulled out of tackles. He didn't seem his usual self wanting to get on the ball and make things happen going forward. Genuinely think his heads turned and he wants away to Rangers.

Rooney is awful and will score goals in the spl but we need someone better up their for games where we need to take the pressure off our midfield and back 4. It was relentless even when he was getting decent balls in to feet he was letting it bounce off him back to their players. When we were under pressure at the start of the 2nd half if we had a striker who could hold the ball up and take the pressure off us then it takes the sting out the opposition. Unfortunately Maynard or Stockley for me next week. I thought the natural change for GMS would have been Storey or Wright to still give us some pace and width.

Rooney is woeful against decent opposition now and 2nd half of last season looked the same against shite teams looks like he's carrying a fridge on his back, has been a great goalscorer for us but turning into the weakest link.it's going to be difficult for Considine this season without Hayes as he's always had the freezer on his back never mind the fridge.

Its not just his pace its the fact his positioning is so poor that he gets caught ball watching, gets away with it most times at left back but won't and hasn't in the past in the center.

Thought the referee was decent apart from booking considine for a supposed 'elbow'. He certainly wasnt taking any of their time wasting pish!

Negatives:

- Considine. His worst performance in a long time. Continually caught too far up the pitch and left Reynolds and O'Connor exposed.

- Defence generally - All over the place and very panicky. We really need a cool, calm, composed right-sided centre back.

- Rooney - Serious discussion needed on him. His touch and movement is truly abysmal. Nothing summed it up better than when he barged in to Maynard going for a header that Maynard was better placed to win. Who the fuck does he think is going to get on the end of his header if he's just barged Maynard out the way?!?

- McLean - Very poor. Touch was off and just seemed miles away from match sharpness.

Positives:

- Christie - What a talented player he is. No wonder Celtic wouldn't sell him.

- GMS - A decent performance and offered glimpses of what he could bring us

- Stewart - Looked decent when he came on. Once he's up to full speed, he'll be a great asset.

Not sure where to start with that yesterday.

Lewis did nothing wrong. Great pass to Christie for the goal.

The defence as a whole was poor. Especially in the 2nd half, their goal had been coming for about 10 mins before they finally got it. Not sure why we stopped marking their wide players for the entire half. We were lucky not to concede more.

The midfield, especially in the second half, offered little protection to the back four mind you. McLean breathing out his arse after half an hour was a joke. Shinnie ran about a lot, and Tansey was lucky not to give away a goal when he got caught with the ball just outside our box.

Attacking wise, I thought Christie had a great game, and I thought GMS also played well in the first half before he tired. You could tell he hasn't played much football recently though. Other than those 2, we were far to slow. A bit of pace would have destroyed these guys, they looked terrible at the back. Dare I say it, with hindsight Storey should have perhaps started. His running caused them more problems in his 5 mins at the end than Rooney did all game, pity he has no end product though.

We can only get better, but playing in 35-40 degree heat over there isn't going to be easy.

We bemoaned playing in the first qualifying round the past few years, but I think yesterday we saw what a difference it makes fitness wise.

Also their diving thoughout the game.... The big 29 up top screaming and falling over after going for a header, then getting straight back up after he was told to get ti fuck by the Dons players was embarrassing.

Missed a hand ball. Allowed them to time waste, the worst case of this being when their boy dived and then ref called for a stretcher only for the boy to get up immediately and swing at one of our players. Constantly stopped the game and didn't allow it to flow. He was honking.
