Niall McGinn

I think he's comfortably better than GMS, Maynard and Scott Wright so for that reason I'd be happy to have him back.

McGinn playing at 100% and GMS at 100% isn't a contest IMO. GMS miles better. The other two I'll give you.

13 goals, 3 of which came against absolute shit like Ayr and Stranraer, 6 came after December when he was looking for a move elsewhere.

my point was you can make statistics look how you want.

For me mcginn brings a number of things we don't have. An ability to hold the ball, he has a great first touch, run with the ball and get the team up the pitch. He doesn't lose the ball very often. He will beat his man and get a cross in regularly. He is right footed so gives us width that Stewart does not given be cuts in on his left all the time. Finally his defensive workrate is far superior to any of the current wingers. Logan has been left exposed countless times this season. Celtic (teirney) and killie (Jones) at home spring to mind as particular examples.

To my mind he's easily better than gms or Stewart and has a number of years of consistent performances behind him. Neither gms or stewart have even managed 3 decent games in a row. He has to be an improvement.

If he comes back fine I’ll get behind him if he doesn’t I won’t lose any sleep over it. Maybe McInnes is keen due to both Christie and Stewart being here on loan and he feels we could be short in that area come the end of the season. McInnes was keen to add another attacking player to the squad in the summer with the failed pursuit of Maloney.

I still think McGinn will end up signing for one of the Edinburgh clubs.

Controversial. McGinn was affa good on his day and put in some fine shifts.

Aye min, fine player indeed. Consistent also. I just believe GMS has the supreme talent. Mcgann has that ability to put in a decent shift when he's not at it. It's close. Would rather watch Gary with the ball at his feet tho.

But GMS at his best is very rare. Even v Celtic where he had a decent game, it was a few nice tricks but no real end product.

The best player is the one who contributes more over a season, not the guy who turns up every now and again.

McGinn, for all the stick he bizarrely gets from Aberdeen fans, produces far more often than GMS does. And Stewart. And May. And Wright. And Rooney. Only Christie is the better player out of all our attacking options.

That's the difference for me.

GMS has been horrific for at least 95% of his handful of appearances for the Dons. McGinn also had his poor matches... but he has more good matches than bad.

However, on the rare occasion GMS hits form, he is pretty much unplayable at this level. I've not seen any of our wingers terrorise a team, the way GMS did against Hibs.

McGinn all day long for me (when GMS has been bad, he's been really shockingly woeful - completely powderpuff too)... however there has been plenty of revisionism since he's left. Not sure I remember this swashbuckling warrior who covered every blade of grass. Some matches McGinn looked completely disinterested. He certainly was not 'up and down all match long' as some are now claiming!

Well have GMS on one wing McGinn on the other like when Hayes was here.

Dad, you invariably speak sense here but cant see mcginn playing anywhere other than out wide if he signs.

We have created the square root of feck all from wide compared to last year and I suspect Mcinnes is trying to bring McGinn back to rectify this.

Rooney and May in the middle banging in the goals from McGinn crosses will be fantastic. Heck, even Maynard can get in on the act.
