Agree it does help. But I think you're putting a bit to much emphasis on a director of football. He hires the coaches and managers not telling them how to play. He also hires the recruiters and has input in contract negotiations for players they find. People answer to him and he should be in control of hiring and firing in the football operation (we know this isn't case) yet gets all the heat. Ultimately he gets judged on who he hires which he doesn't even have full control over.

The big issue is the hiring of people that don't align to our apparent philosophy. See Goodwin and Robson appointments and even Warnock. If you are going to shout about the philosophy you are going to get judged on it. It's absolutely ridiculous that Garner and Milne have input on managerial appointments. A job that should lie with Gunn.

Things will change in summer but the undermining has to stop. Appoint the right people and let them do their job.

You could have just wrote 'I don't know what a proper director of football does' and saved yourself some time.

It’s going to be disappointing when this guy gets moved/replaced and we are still shit.

Gunn will go and someone else will come in, but we all know that in reality Cormack is our DOF. So you're right I doubt much will change until Cormack takes a couple steps back from the decision making

This cunt will forever have that job title as long as that charlatan cunt cormack is in charge.

I can see the review concluding the role is too big for one person. Could end up they split the responsibilities between two people - which would help Gunn save face rather than being sacked or demoted.

Gunn gets the women's team and youth teams and someone competent gets the men's team.

Not so ridiculous as thinking anyone has any input rather than Cormack when it comes to managerial appointments.

Gonna be delighted when he goes somewhere with a smaller budget and outperform us.

The job shouldn't lie with any of them - none of them are qualified or competent.

Youve kind of made the points that I would have. A footballing background would help in the majority of matters, especially if he's hiring all these people you name...

Do we have room for a philosophy?Attacking attractive football would be great but first and foremost is just winning football matches..

This is the issue. They should come hand in hand.

You use a philosophy because you believe in it, not to appease fans.

If you have a director of football surely you need some sort philosophy? Something for everyone to sing off? To align the club from top and bottom. It’s easier to judge people if we know what they are suppost to do. The problem is neither align with each other. Just proper scattergun. It makes zero sense. It’s partly Gunns fault but it also has a lot to do with Cormack as many people are now waking up too. Cormack for example should be kept up to date with everything at club no argument in that but he shouldn’t be undermining our recruitment department or our DOF. If people think Gunn is under qualified cormack is 10 times worse.

This ^^^

Dave is literally a "fan" who got a lot of money and has decided to run his hometown club to feed his ego. What he knows about running a football club could be wrote on a stamp. What he knows about modern football probably less so. It's why he needs to take a back seat and employ the correct people and get them to decide the framework - he won't ever allow allow his ego to do this though to no matter what the internal review or multiple footballing failures show, Dave will always be right and we will continue round in circles.

The guy was on the board under Milne previously, so you'd think he'd know at least a little bit about how to run a football club. He's trying his best to prove that theory wrong I'll admit.

Willie Garner is on our current board. I wouldn't trust him to be able to set up a direct debit let alone run a fully functioning football club. Cormack is in a similar sphere if ineptitude it's just he managed to make a few quid.

almost every owner is underqualified to own a team ffs, that's why you need good, qualified people in the important positions, Gunn isn't one of them, best of luck to him in the future though.

??

Meaning...going, going.......gone?

He'll have learned absolutely nothing about running a football club from Stewart Milne.

Travel agent boy is just a symptom of a much wider problem at AFC namely the owner and the members of the board/fmb. The fact they view Gunn as they do is deeply worrying and speaks volumes about the incompetence/malaise in the club. Garner for example played for us but is a Celtic fan who shouldnt be anywhere near the AFC board.

What is the job description of a 'Director of Football Operations' at AFC and how does it differ to other clubs 'Director of Football'? Have we created a role where qualified 'football' individuals are put off working here and the job is purely an admin role (contracts, organising travel for European games, budgets etc.) and not the job we all think a DoF typically should be?

Wasn’t Gun DoF previously, and became DoFo in March 2021, when Glass was appointed?

Was never quite sure why his job title was altered and what the alteration entailed.
