IIRC it happened a few days before Bronski Beat were supposed to be flying out to the States to be the support act for Madonna. In the aftermath, he refused to go (he might not have gotten in anyway on the strength of it), his 2 other bandmates (who were bumming each other) turned on him and poor old Jimmy was out the band about a month later. There are no starving children in the UK, thanks to our very generous welfare system and large plethora of schemes to feather the nests of the less fortunate. Poverty in the UK is defined as the Government not giving you a council house with several extra bedrooms which you don't actually need. 1 6 Link to comment

Can I ask, what religion are you? I completely agree that people should not feel ashamed of who they are attracted to. Why ask about religion? That response is a meme in your personality, implanted by popular culture / media. To understand human sexuality, we need only need consider it for what it is: how it works, what it does, why this is important etc. I do not have any biology qualifications, but everyone covers it in general science in early high school. No-one's religious faith (or lack thereof) impinges on the objective reality of it. Rationality is not the sole preserve of the religious, even if it often seems like it today. 1 1 Link to comment

Jimmy Somerville seems a decent guy, though hes done fuck all for a long time. Richard Coles has proved an interesting character in the fullness of time, Im tempted to read his autobiography. 1 1 Link to comment

Somerville always did my head in, like most Communist / fudge-nudger hybrids he had a serious persecution complex and was never slow to let the world know this. I shudder whenever I hear his "Small Town Boy" hit. 1 Link to comment

Why on earth aren't English MP's all demanding English independence though? Why on earth should they expect their constituent taxpayers to pay through the nose to fund schemes in Scotland that Boris wouldn't dream of implementing in England? Frankly it's bizarre that they'd want to remain in a union with us as we are such subsidy junkies. Yet they seem very keen to do so.......hmmmm 3 Link to comment

Guest
Good to see reports of the Tory sleeze continuing to be aired. Those pricks are only ever interested in one thing and that is growing their personal fortune not attempting to "level up" the country. Did the haunted pencil case Rees Mogg not "earn" an absolute fortune on the back of Brexit, which he campaigned vigorously for? Shameless see you next Tuesday's!!! Link to comment

I'd imagine that top of the list is it not being a country. Although their is a Californian "Yes" movement. Was talking about it to a native when I was in San Diego in 2019. They've even stolen the "Yes" logo from Scotland. Link to comment

They were an independent state well after Scotland was part of the UK. States can secede from the union so...if they saw being a part of the US as burdensome they could leave...they don't, perhaps they see the value of pooling and sharing of resources amongst a greater number of people. Not sure what argument you're making here? Some places want to be within a bigger country, some don't. I don't think Slovakia or Czech Republic want to reunify. "irrelevant", I hear you say? Exactly. Clydeside_Sheep
Surely Sturgeon making a rod for her own back here with yet more freebies? She is already using covid relief money to fund SNP policies, but I don't think the direction is sustainable (or likely to win her a referendum). Maybe she is thinking about winning an impressive election victory and then retiring in a blaze of glory before the next budget? 1 Link to comment
