You have to have the 'Mens Rea' or 'mental element' for it to be murder, that is to say you need to have the intention or knowledge that your action would likely have a chance to cause the death of that person. If you have none it cannot be murder/first degree,  it would then have to be seen as culpable homicide/manslaughter or whatever other degree Americans use. It when then have to be one or there other, I'm not entirely sure how it would work in America but it could be something to do with how the sentence people. They are sentenced consecutively, which is why you can get ludicrous sentences like 123 years, whereas in other places like the UK it is usually done concurrently so you end up only doing time for whatever carried the highest sentence.

Jurisprudence is only an honours course now unless I'm mistaken. They curriculum will have changed a lot since then, second year is EU law, Family, Succession and so on. Yeah it's at Aberdeen uni. Not sure what to do with it, you have to be thinking a year or two ahead if you want to get a decent job as a lawyer with all the limited time traineeships and summer internships.

Succession seems interesting but not sure about the amount of money in it, I've thought about joining the police as a back up and using their internal fast track scheme since I'd have a degree but I don't like the idea of being a police officer, then again I hear their pension is nothing to cry about.
