Scotland v Cyprus & Spain

Recommended Posts

Scotland squad

Goalkeepers: Zander Clark, Angus Gunn, Liam Kelly

Defenders: Liam Cooper, Grant Hanley, Jack Hendry, Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson, Ryan Porteous, Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney

Midfielders: Stuart Armstrong, Lewis Ferguson, Billy Gilmour, Ryan Jack, John McGinn, Callum McGregor, Kenny McLean, Scott McTominay

Forwards: Che Adams, Jacob Brown, Ryan Christie, Lyndon Dykes

Thoughts? No standout keeper there.  A lot of our 'best' players getting limited playing time too. Clark sticking by the tried and tested but not sure there's many pushing their way in to replace them. Possibly Shankland if he'd been fit.

To my mind, one of Kelly or Clark who have both been in squads before (although strangely neither have ever been given a try out even in a friendly) deserve the chance to start this one. But given the publicity surrounding the inclusion of Gunn, I suspect he's Mr Clarke's favoured option.

No Afc player again, sums up our youth development again. Couple move on and we are miles away

Only 4 players (2 of those are keepers)

in the squad playing in Scotland. Says everything about the standard of Scottish football- nothing to do with our youth development.

3 goalkeepers none are capped, we have had enough friendly games, where Clark and Kelly have been in squads, they should have been capped by now

Totally agree. Made no sense for Clarke to keep playing Craig Gordon in friendlies. As for Gunn- Scottish father who played for Aberdeen and Scotland. He is not the only English born player who will have played for Scotland.

But not so many have (very publicly) rejected our offer to represent us previously. We've now got 2 in our squad who really would have preferred to play for England under different circumstances (those circumstances being that they were just plain better players that England would really want to include in their set-up).

Frankly it stinks.

It actually explains why as a youth moving to sevco/Celtic or epl 3rd squad is a foolish career move “IF” you want Scotland caps. Money wise, perfect move

Course it has, half of them were developed up here.

How many Croatian players play in Croatia?

Same question for Denmark?
Norway?

I’d say if Scotland have players in the EPL or Seria A (markedly better leagues than the SPFL) then that’s a good thing?

No surprise that ol' snakey is in there again. Clarke is a known hun and needs to stick by his illegitimate son. (allegedly).

Clarke is a Celtic fan 😆

He's a Roman Catholic Kilmarnock supporter but probably would have Celtic leanings..

After a year out of football, Clarke was appointed manager of Scottish Premiership club Kilmarnock, the club he had supported as a child, on 14 October 2017. When he took over, the club sat bottom of the league table.
