Euro 2024 - Germany

Recommended Posts

Draw could’ve been better, could’ve been worse.

Germany aren’t great but will probably be better with home advantage. Would’ve preferred Belgium.

Hungary - could’ve been worse.

Switzerland. Second hardest draw from pot 4 probably other than Italy, so that was a wee sting at the end.

England have an easy draw.

Group B & E the toughest.

France v England final.

4 points is likely to be plenty to gut us out the group..Shirley we can manage that..

utopia;

we will sneak a win against the goose steppers, draw with the neutrals and beat Hungry by a couple in the last game. 7 points and second in the group on goal difference.

usual;

 Narrow loss to Germany having been plucky and competed very well. Beat Switzerland in game 2. Need a point against hungry and concede a controversial var penalty in the 95th minute and don’t qualify.

I don't think the tournament will play out as obvious as that, the Euros never have. Portugal will be hard to out-score and Belgium have been chasing glory for years, with De Bruyne they are a devastating team.  Turkey seem to be back to a much stronger side these day, too. Unlucky for Austria getting such a tough group, they have became a very good side in the past two years. They might upset the Dutch, though.

Portugal drew all their group games in 2016, got through on 3 pts, 0 goal diff:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2016#Group_F

They then went on to win the Final against France thanks to that great 117th minute winner by Eder.

Northern Ireland also got through on 3 pts, O goal diff:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2016#Group_C

We are very good even great at defending, so that's a bonus, but we need to bang in goals against those three and that's doable, judging by how many goals Germany and Switzerland have let in this year.

Not a bad draw. Could have been a lot worse. First game against Germany could be a good time to play them. Don’t think we should be fearing Hungary or Switzerland

Not really. Switzerland struggled at times in their qualifiers...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2024_qualifying_Group_I#Matches

I watched a few of their games highlights and they struggled against Kosovo, Belarus, even Andorra. It's a rabble of a team, they shat it in Qatar, totally fell apart.

Definitely doable to get at least 5 points.

We should play Austria in a friendly.

Yea I reckon Hungary are very decent the last few years

Yeah, they outplayed England in the Nations League, but not in the World Cup qualifiers...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_–_UEFA_Group_I#Standings

Losing to Albania fucked them. Hungary were once a great footballing nation from the 1930s-1960s, they like us want to be back on the big stage.

Hungary have a good side just now and will be underestimated by Scottish fans/press. Switzerland always qualify and are usually a complete bore at the tournament. Germany can be got at.

#analysis

They are on the UK press radar after they gubbed England 4-0 at Wembley in Nations League. England reversed thhat score in World Cup qualifiers in Budapest, and the other match at Wembley was a 1-1 draw. But yeah, Hungary get underestimated.

It's too early to make any real predictions. Gay gestures are a given. Steve Clarke in a rainbow gimp suit singing, "The Teddybears Picnic" at the opening ceremony has been rumoured...

Driving to it as well. Fuck staying in a hotel always a good fans campsite which is brilliant banter. Was at euro 96 and there seemed to be a game of football that lasted 6 days.
