Was a great trip, remember it quite vividly. We saw all the British paratrooper stuff in/around Arnhem too. I remember getting to try to chisel bits of the Berlin wall off (it was f*cking tough) and remember standing under the Brandenburg Tor as my Dad was buying uniform hats from ex-east german servicemen, now unemployed. But in the UK there is the perception that its some sort of exotic paradise, and to an extent it is compared to the Bridge of Don. You can (could) get visa free entry by flying into Minsk (for buttons with the local airline) but needed a full visa for the train. Great route to sneak into Russia if you’re into that sort of thing.
