Here is another hypothetical situation for you:

You have just ordered a plate/ bowl of chips in the pub.

When the chips have arrived, do you put your sauce of choice on the side or all over the chips? And why?

Bonus Jumby fun question:

Q. Do you prefer straight-cut or crinkle-cut chips? And why?

A. If you chose crinkle, you're 100% WRONG!

Sauce goes all over - preferable option is cheese on first then either gravy or mayo. 

Straight cut chips every day of the week.

Sauce on the side, because I prefer to dunk in the sauce and avoid pouring over, as you get a couple of claggy ones that will be covered in mayo. 

Crinkle cut chips are for children and perverts.

I've never ordered a bowl of chips in a bar. At home if plated up I wouldn't dream of putting sauce on them. Salt and vinegar is all that I permit in those circumstances.

Paradoxically I always put tomato ketchup on my chips if they're in a butty.

I had a bowl of skinny fries with rosemary sea salt, they were decent enough so no sauce required. Chips of a lesser quality get a sauce on the side to dip into. Choice varies, but normally just tomato sass.
