barassie_afc
The difference in international football is that you watch a player three weeks ago and he impresses. A fortnight later they don't do as well." Mcleish quote, I think we know who he is talking about, and to be honest , he was at the Celtic and Rangers games and Russell didnt play well, however I think Mcmanus is a cart horse Link to comment
Ajja
f*ck me, its not that long ago he couldn't get a game for Dundee and Hibs were refusing to take this guy back. Now he starts up front for Scotland, what is the world coming too ? Link to comment
boaby
I've no objections to McManus playing. He did well in the CL this season and is a threat from set-pieces. I have objections to David Weir playing. He will cause us to be 10 yards deeper as he is ridiculously slow. IMO he should be nowhere near the starting 11. Link to comment

mo don
Russell has been poor against Rangers and Celtic recently while Mcmanus played in a defence that kept AC Milan out for 180 minutes you cant really argue. I dont think Russell will ever be a scotland regular while he plays for Aberdeen Link to comment

'Twas always so..........King Joey, Willie only having 60-something caps, how many caps did Drew Jarvie, Frankie, Eric Black, Simmie, Billy Stark, Davie dodds (the elephant man), Peter Weir, Mark McGhee, Ernie Winchester, Ernie McGarr get as Dons players??? And, Goram ahead of Leighton Link to comment

Dynamo
Anyone else glad Russel isnae playing?? Obviously sorry for the lad himself as he is clearly in the top 2 scottish centre backs IMO, but from a purely selfish point of view, at least he winna get injured! Link to comment

SupaAFC
Granted Russell can have a poor game, but this just pisses me off. Anyone can just walk into the team if they're an Old Farm player and Russell, well, what hope does he have? Plays a great Kirin Cup and he's dropped...for playing the Faroes...not exactly Brazil are they? McManus is going to have poor games in future too: who's to say Russell wouldn't give a great effort tomorrow against Georgia? You just need one-two good games if you're an OF player and you're in. Or, if you're a Premiership reserve player, you're in (Christian Dailly of course). Well f*ck this, I'm not in a good mood. Link to comment
Milners
Can't be too pissed off with McLeish, Anderson was so f*cking terrible against Rangers its no surprised McLeish hasn't started with him. Would you trust a defender that had a real nightmare the previous game - i couldn't. Link to comment

Anderson just doesn't have that nasty side that is needed. He copes no problem against most teams but when he's upagainst a big forward he tends to come second best toooften.Maybe if he hadn't to spend so much time coveringfor his team mates it would help. The added pressure the glasgow press put on him coshe aint with the huns or tims cannot help either. OddJob
I'm sorry butjust because he had a poor game against the Huns doesn't mean he wouldn't have played well today. I mean he completely marked John Carew out of the Norway game when Scotland were utter gash. This is a more solid and confident team now that he wouldn't or shouldn't feel so pressured. Granted McManus is a no-nonsense centre back - who has played really well this season - but Russell should still be starting ahead of him as he is still the in-form defender in the SPL this season. Slim
Weir and Pressley aren't even going to be around when it's time for Euro 2008, so we should be building towards that, and more importantly, building a team that'll be ready for the WC2010 qualifiers. Not giving players like Anderson and McManus (no doubt he'll be dropped for the Italy game) vital experience in games like this is what caused us major problems when we were at rock bottom a few years ago. I'm concerned how much this will affect Anderson's confidence for the rest of the season, if his head goes down, we're f*cked. Link to comment

Problem for Anderson is he didn't perform on the big stage - now i can't disagree with McLeish on this one. Anderson had a right good chance to get into the scotland team with Pressley suspended but he blown it big time. Link to comment

Milners
As opposed to McManus getting skinned for goals against both Milan and Falkirk? i thought McManus was excellent in Milan till that mistake, the falkirk goal was Neil Lennon mistake for ball watching and not following his man. Link to comment
davieb
its a complete joke. Anderson has been a consistant performer over a number of seasons, and although McManus has played in Europe, really he is nothing more than a standard scottish central defender ala Davie Mcpherson. Playing for Celtic week in week out with a superior squad compared to most other league sides is nothing like playing for Scotland. Out of interest does anyone know how many caps has McManus got compared to Anderson? Link to comment
