I have, however, got a solution.

 

I just ask for a roll and potato scone now and when they are about to hand it over, I say "Oh, and can I have some links and onions on it as well please".

 

They always give a look which says "I have a vague notion that you just tricked me somehow.  I wish I was smart enough to know how."

 

Done it twice now, a perfect roll both times.
