Spl Clubs To Go Bust

Recommended Posts

Fair enough, but if you move somewhere else, watch the local team there instead, and watch the Dons when you can afford it/time allows.

If you dinna live near Aberdeen, you should not be expecting to see every game, and the radio is far better coverage anyway.

That's it, tup.

Folk expect everything to be easy for them.

My local team (professional that is) would be Coventry City, if I went to watch them then that would leave me with less money to spend on merchandise on the team that I do give a f**k about, so I buy sky sports knowing that in some way it puts some money into AFC along with paying for Red Web.

And yes I do tend to have it on the radio too when I'm in the house.

I'll go to any game, if I'm in an area at the time, but EPL game prices are becoming out of the reach of such transient supporters, unless tourists from Korea count.

I don't attend EPL matches, I've been to about 6 or 7 in my life. The major reason I take such an interest, is because it's so well covered in Australia. The Bundesliga gets a fair bit of air time too, but the EPL coverage absolutely dwarves it. The Australian League is so bad that I just refuse to watch that garbage.

I used to be regular at Forest however and it cost me GBP10 with my matriculation card and I was very happy with the quality - far higher than what's currently on offer in SPL.

The population of England is far greater than that of Scotland, as i'm sure you are aware, so comparing season tickets with Scottish clubs is hardly fair. Aberdeen should be doing better, however, with the amount of folk living in and around Aberdeen and the fact we've got 1 team.

Clubs like Aberdeen are being forced to pay higher wages for less quality because of inflated wages (and egos) of footballers, our crowds have remained roughly the same and yet we're paying out more money. It just isn't feasible, so ticket prices go up....crowds go down, less money for decent players, sh*te performances on the park, even less fans come!

Ban foreign investment as well.

The population has nothing to do with the fact that attendances are rising all through the English leagues but dropping in Scotland.

Blaming TV money and Sky is the easy option...

Clubs here do not promote themselves properly, they expect people just to turn up. Clubs here dont live the dream they piss all over it, we cant, we cant we cant. Hearts keep their supporters coming through the door by selling them madvlads vision of winning titles, will it happen, I doubt it but at least he's trying to give his fans hope. Yes he's overspending etc but that has f**k all to do with my point, he is promoting his club and selling them a dream.

Yes the SPL needs investment and it needs to up its standards but we, the press and the clubs also have to start talking themselves up instead of putting our game and themselves down all the time. The SPL also has to try and take more control over how our game is covered on the TV, the BBC (they supply all the cameras to all the games, Sky then buy the pictures from then FYI) send a minimum of 6, usually 8 cameras to any EPL or Championship game, we get 1 stuck in the middle of the stand, cant see if something is definitely offside, no alternative angles, sometimes stuck behind a pillar, no real discussion, nadda. Our highlights programs look like they've been cobbled together in a cupboard somewhere just after being filmed in the same cupboard...

Has Sky's money made it harder for clubs here to compete, of course it has. Is it the main reason our game is in such a decline, no IMO. Its a small part of a much larger problem in the Scottish game.

Think you mean 92/93, average home SPL attendance........11,176

Wasn't that because we had a reduced capacity due to building the RDS? You have to also remember that a lot of folk were lifted over the turnstyles and that clubs used to take cash at the gate...crowds were frequently higher than reported to avoid paying tax and because footballs corrupt as feck, as outlined above.

Indeed.

A completely misleading average that, as the capacity of the ground for the construction of the RDS was 15,000.

The season before that, an abysmal season by comparison (chalk & cheese in fact), had four 20,000+ attendances for OF visits.

The majority of the Aberdeen support, if you believe what you read on ABMad, AFC Chat and Donstalk.... plenty people are upset at the quality of the current side. Which is one of the major reasons why crowds are dwindling

.... to answer your question! :thumbup1:

had a season ticket for a year for ADO, now that was proper punishment for something I obviously did in a previous life.

Dire football, boring as f**k, no heart, no drive, just loads of pretty little passes.

The SPL is a far better league to watch that the Dutch Eredivisie unless you are speaking about Ajax v PSV or Feyenoord but then the same could be said when watching the top clubs in almost any league.

I'm assuming you aren't serious when you say that EPL is scripted like WWF....

Anyway, your final sentence.... this is what I think will end up happing, 10 or 15 years down the line. Rangers and celtic will leave and our top league will become semi-professional, like the league or Ireland or Wales. To be honest, I think it might be better that way. The current SPL is just an utter embarrassment.

If I can be serious without being deadly serious, then I am indeed being serious. While not strictly scripted, the EPL is much like WWF. The concept of a proper league of football was binned with the advent of Sky with their NFL style coverage and mega bucks pumped throughout the game. The structure ensures the same teams challenge every year. The rest just become extras as the punters all conform into supporting the same top teams with the same predictable outcome. Sure, the gashness that is the SPL is dominated by two "peoples champions", but the EPL is set up to ensure maximum exposure for the same 3 or 4 teams every year. It's a contrived heap of horse sh!te of the highest order. Aussies can't get enough of the EPL which says more about their ability to fall for the marketing then their understanding of a proper football competition. They all support one of the top four teams - just like they are supposed to.

We can agree that the current SPL is an utter embarrassment. Trying to continue with the same scaled down shitty model of the shitty EPL is nonsense. We need to get back to basics. Like going to watch your local team at 3 pm on a Saturday as they field a team of young Scots lads who are desperate to get on to the field with the intention of winning the ball, winning the game, and winning some respect. Not selling out to some TV dollar. If that doesn't fit into the old firms "business model" then they can f'ck off down south so their inbred "followers" can start a riot so they don't feel left out.

Living on the other side of the world will mean I struggle to attend, and will struggle to watch TV games. But I'd take that to be able to walk the streets of Sydney with my Dons top on, head held high, and know I support something worth being a part of. I'm more than half a world away from feeling like that right now.

Amen to that.

Ditch TV and the Old Firm, sorted.

Nobody has ever desputed that fact - Apart from tup arguing with himself.

I merely pointed out that nobody will be X amount of pounds to watch SPL football when there is a better product available elsewhere.

Then tup started another anti english football rant even though he clearly watches it every chance he gets.

ah right I see what yer sayin.

That's as may be.... however, I'll boldly suggest that the major reason our crowds have dropped off in recent years is due to people being unhappy with the quality of football on show, in return for the price you pay through the turnstiles.

Additionally, gauging opinion from the girning malcontents who still attend pittodrie, a large number of them are also unhappy.

I'm not going this season, has a bit to do with the quality but a lot more to do with how we've shaped up and I feel/think that we will do nothing but defend this year. I'm not sitting in Pittordie on a cold, snowy, windy day freezing my ass off to watch 11 guys do nothing but stifle the opposition. I want to see drive and passion from my players, I want to see them attack teams. I dont want to be bored to tears watching a team that cant attack...

The quality has been poor for years even when we got into Europe but this season is shaping up to be the worst of them all.

See quite a few of the granite city lads out at inverurie.

Googled it but all i could find is an artical from 09 saying attendances were up accross the board.

Pretty hard to get attendances on any of the sites, including the official highland league site.

That's because they're all fiddling the cash taken at the gate, the true attendances will be nothing like the reported ones.

So what's new?

Who remembers Third Lanark?

Me, Cathkin Park, still derelict.

Clydebank, subsequently eaten by Airdrieonians, who were themselves bust, coming back as Airdrie United.

What do these clubs have in common? Correct, they all come from shitholes, and were run my thieving b*stards.
