Bobby Connor
Geting a new TV is always cause for excitement. My last one cost £1500. Got 6 years out of it but I think one of the backlights must've blown. Fuckin bonnie TV, 37" LCD. Not really worth trying to get it fixed though? Went for LED this time. Freeview HD is pretty impressive and the whole set up is light as a feather. Will take two of us to lug the old one to the tip but this new thing is a mere 40mm deep! Amazing how quickly technology progresses. Much better picture too and for £328 delivered! Link to comment

Bobby Connor
Seems to be the way things are these days. I can remember the TV at my parents breaking and having to go and get it fixed. Now they'd probably just chuck it out if it was out of warranty. I got myself a Blu-ray player this week and the picture quality, even on my wee 720p 22" TV looks amazing. You can also hook up a portable hard drives to it and you can connect it to the internet to watch YouTube and iPlayer videos among other things. I'm sure there are more features to discover and it was only Link to comment

spamspamspam
Black levels are off the scale compared to the old one. aye, mi ma's TV packed in a couple of months ago. was only 8 months old but discontinued. She was given a LED replacement, loves the pic but doesnt like the shape of the TV at all. It sits lower on the unit that she's used to so... I have a wee sticker on it, she'll by herself a new one and I'll have an almost new 50" LED Porn that big and clear will look like a live sex show in the living room Link to comment

I've moved house and a huge telly would look daft in my pad but ma old telly was an item of love and I'll miss the thing. I now have a disproportionally huge TV stand which is a bit of an issue. The Boofon
My pal has a 60inch TV and a small penis. Make of that what you will. True story, not trying to make a connection between cock size and TV's. I'm rocking 50 inches. Your last massive TV purchase was the 50 Norwegain Krona for the Frank Bruno lookalike. Link to comment

muttondressedaslamb
I always remember a male mate of mine when he bought his first flat. He didn't have any furniture whatsoever yet had this humungous TV sitting in his living room that actually made the room unpleasant to be in because there was so much heat radiating from it. I just don't get why they have to be soooooo massive. Link to comment

ollie1903
I'm old enough to remember the days of the TV repairman (now extinct). George "ross county" Adams. Not a lot of people know that. Or maybe they do Link to comment
robbo
I'm old enough to remember the days of the TV repairman (now extinct). So important was/is the TV, these guys were held in the same regard as a doctor, bank manager, prime minister, God etc. my dad was one of these guys before the need for repair stopped. so he retrained as a washing machine repair man before the need for repair stopped. anyway, he hated it. said very frequently youd go to peoples houses, kneel down.....then feel your knee getting wet.....and then realise your trousers were now soaked in someone elses piss. happened more often than hed care to recall. im a huge fan of my tv. had a 32" crt one before as my main tv and it was fine for years. then came the time to get a new one and we upgraded to 40" lcd hd. my god, i love this beast. if i want to watch anything from the internet, shove an hdmi in the side of my laptop, click source till i get my desktop and im sorted. so im currently typing this from across the living room and can still make it out just fine. only thing that pisses me off now is i got this 2 years ago for £500 and for that price today i could get a 50 or 60" 3D tv and still have change. hopeisimportant
I don't get massive TVs. I think they look daft swallowing up half of someones living room. I got a new TV 6 months ago and just went for a 32"er. It's more than adequate but a few of my mates can't understand why I went for such a small screen. Can I comfortably watch Babestation from my couch? Yes. Link to comment

This used to be the case with the old CRT TVs, the huge ones would literally take up half the living room due to their depth. However with these new flat screen numbers, they don't take up any space whatsoever especially if you mount them on the wall. They're just like a big picture.... I don't see a downside to having a massive telly, superb for gaming and watching sport plus you get an almost cinematic experience when watching movies. Link to comment
Nelly
my last TV was a 32" CRT and we called out a repair man twice to fix it when a relay had gone caput! So they are still out there. Took up the corner of the living room but since it had such a good picture managed to resist all the early 'HDReady' plasmas & LCD that cost a bomb but looked crap. Upgraded to a 42" Plasma a couple of years ago with sky HD and the picture blew me away, especially with Blu-ray. Mounted on the wall so takes up less room than my smaller screened CRT, also got an AV receiver so that only one HDMI cable had to be routed behind the wall. Bigger screen means that I can sit at the opposite end of the room and still read all the text on Sky Sports News. Link to comment

Podge
This thread is just making me want to upgrade my tv now! I've got a 37 " Hannspree tv, the picture is fine enough but the speakers in it are pretty terrible. Also made the mistake of moving it through to the living room since the tv in there was an older CRT style with a TINY screen (by today's standards). Though maybe I'll just leave my old one in the living room and get a brand-spanking new one for bedroom so I can play ps3 properly again and without having to wait for flatmate to not be wanting to watch the tv in the living room. I'm somehow whipped by my female flatmate, it's like living with a girlfriend/wife I'm sure but without the best bit! Link to comment
