Chrisyboy81
Speed limits are for the weak. Britain needs to take inspiration from Germany the only thing that restricts my speed now is how much I can be arsed to spend on petrol. Having said that the roads in Scotland are pish, it's shocking just how better they are once you get into Englandshire. The other thing is potholes, it really is like Poland or Czech Republic sometimes. The amount of money that it costs to be a driver in Scotland you'd think the government could at least make the roads decent. Link to comment
daytripping
haha very true whats everyones tips for avoiding police cars? ive only been caught once - the now infamous thread explains it - through having excellent "hazard perception" and spotting them on a bridge, or in a lay-by...but are there usually tell tale signs? The blue light on top of their white vehicle is normaly a big clue. Link to comment
diamondsr4ever
The cost of insurance for young people is crazy, once I pass my test i intend on getting a brand new golf or audi a3, insurance for that will be through the roof, absolute joke. thats nuts Mini, why dont you try and get a decent motor but smaller engine and build up yer no cliams bonus etc over the next 5 years or so, you have plenty o time for a faster and decent motor. Dynamo
Higher speeds, uses more fuel, which leads to more money been spent on fuel, which brings the government more money. I can see why they're doing this. Link to comment
tup
There should be no opportunity to hold a driving licence until at least 21, and you should have to sport Loser plates for a full five years afterwards. Link to comment

Dynamo
Why a brand new one anyway mini? Buy 2nd hand. Once you buy it the value will tumble anyway. Link to comment

tightbreeks
I think the cameras are set at 82mph on the 70 bits of dual carraigeway. i'm a bit of twat, when someone is trying to scoot by me on the fast lane and i know there is a speed camera coming up, i pull over just before it hoping that the boy in his anger hits the accelerator to zoom by and gets flashed. oh the little things in life! It's crazy and it's getting higher every year. I'd definitely consider a smaller engine to start with if I were you it damn near crippled me. I can totally understand where you're coming from though. thebladder
Speed limits should be much more flexible and relative to the road (and conditions actually) If you compare the A90 with say the M6, it is nonsense that they both have a 70mph limit. Link to comment

spamspamspam
Great stuff, don't see why it's can be higher than 80 if I'm honest. the roads here just aint good enough for any more than 80 IMO. even the duelers and some of teh motorways are fucked. christ, 10mph is about all you can do in some of the city centre roads now. Scooting around on the scooter there are some streets I've got to hold on for dear life. Muggiemoss Road is like a ploughed field, the road into dyce is a mare and great northern road isnt fit for a horse and cart. All for raising the speed limits on the duelers and m roads but they'd need a hell of a lot of work done to them to keep it safe and to stop peoples cars being ruined. Link to comment

No concerns about the cost of the car? No doubt ol' daddio with his offshore wage will have to get the ol' chequebook out.Cheesepipes is not my dad. Why a brand new one anyway mini? Buy 2nd hand. amancalledbuck
Is there still shitloads of teuchter kids getting killed on the roads? You lot, up here, have no fucking road sense. Shift the limit to 40 and save a few lives. There's nae rush to get anywhere. Link to comment
tup
There's nae rush to get anywhere. Nonsense, I'm always in a hurry, even if I'm 15 minutes early. The thing is, if you tootle along your whole life at 40, and I sit at a steady 95 the whole time, that means I will make my journey in less than half the time. Add that up over a lifetime and I would get at least an extra couple of years on you. Link to comment

I'd expect you might come out some years ahead if you only ever drive on multilane carriageways, without much traffic to impede your progress, never in town slowing for pedestrians or other impediments, and you never get pulled over for speeding -- sitting roadside listening to the usual longwinded sermon on the perils of speeding while you await your fine.
