More than all our rivals except Hearts.

So we don't then have to pay 2 or 3 times more than Motherwell for example to guarantee quality in this league then?

Can you rephrase that? I'm not sure what you are asking.

Again, you need to spend substantially more to guarantee (which is too strong a word) better players.

We used to, we don't any more.

What is so hard to understand?

That guaranteed success right enough.

I already said "guarantee" was "too strong a word" and never mentioned success once - only superior players - they still have to be motivated and set up correctly.

And we were significantly more successful than now - we qualified for Europe through the league and competed with some far bigger teams (who incidentally spent a fucking fortune more than we did on wages - what does that say?).

We should also have won the Scottish Cup, and reached another final at least around that time.

Pretty obvious really. Wages increase dramatically in 2007 and we qualify for Europe leading to a huge increase in turnover the following year. It also looks like Calderwood, McGhee and Brown's budgets weren't a million miles apart overall.

Don't you? It's a thread about the quality of player you can (or can't expect) on SPL salaries - they are SPL teams and both employ players - on salaries

Comparing a wage bill from 4 seasons earlier from a team in Europe, earlier with the SPLs lowest wage bill (bottom team) from last season is making no point at all.

The wage bill should be more than enough to be challenging for Europe as it is.

Absolutely. It's just a shame the board went straight to cut budgets after Setanta and didn't see it as an opportunity to cement a place in Europe for the following years. Scottish football was supposedly on its knees and no on thought to take advantage. That's why Hibs are crying out for a decent manager. They've got the facilities and they're pretty much debt free. If they took a bit of a gamble with the right manager they'd do wonders.
