quite poor that this thread had to descend into the usual abuse about the guy. we can all agree that he was nowhere near the standard required, he was a supporter that got to live the dream, a dream that not one of us would have declined.

I'm sure the next response will be to slate him again.

just remember he didn't offer himself these contracts, they were given to him.

:) No offence intended, just incase you are a man who likes other men

None taken.

I do like other men,

Nae keen on touching their tadgers like.

Thanks for the memories Darren.

Amen to that.

Enjoyed every minute of his 13 years in the first team contributing brilliantly to the cause with his superb first touch, lethal finishing and all round tremendous skill and unerring vision

Not forgetting his complete commitment to maintaining his fitness.

What a player. Worth every single penny of the hundereds of thousands paid to him over the glorious years of his awesome AFC career.

Distraught the he didn't get the contract extension we all hope he would.

I doubt, as a club, we'll ever recover from that. :(

Same here.

Trying hard but having paralympic style of ability is of no use to us, just as much as having some sort of talent but being lazy as sin.

He's done very well out of us, and should consider himself lucky that the incompetence seen at Pittodrie over the last decade has seen him make a wedge far outweighing his talent.

Not our problem any more thankfully.

said the same a few days ago bri

the scariest part is that he hasn't even been the worst we've had

I will say this for Darren... whoever we get in to replace him will be a lesser footballer than Mackie.

I can pretty much guarantee that.

unless we replace him with a traffic cone, impossible to find a worse professional footballer than lego man.

All the best Darren, I'll miss the tales of balancing jugs of water on the door, the cutting the toes of your pals socks at training, your general high jinks and all round cheeky chapiness.

Now fuck off.

So if ur young lad is offered a contact but fans think he is shit mind tell him not to sign it. All the best darren pity ur ability didnt match ur passion for the club, best of luck and see u in the red army in a few years.

O

My loon has more ability at 11 than Darren could ever dream of.

Whether he is lucky enough to ever be offered a contract, only time will tell.

Like u say time will tell ability at 11 means nothing, mackie done 13 years in spl no matter what you say.

ofcourse it means something, his loon is 11 and mackie is 30 and already he's better. like i've said before i'll doubt we'll ever witness a bigger chocolate in a dons top than lego man.

Absolutely.

Doesn't make your statement about having ability at 11 means nothing any less foolish

It was meant as in achievements, having ability at 11 means nothing if you are out the game by 15, I hope u keep the loon on the straight and narrow and we see him banging them in but im sure you will agree there will be kids in his age group who will hit the booze, take drugs and whatever else and be out the game. The ability they had at 11 will mean nothing.

Ability at a young age, in my opinion, is everything.

Inevitably, some, sadly, will be lost to the game. But they are where they are at the moment, and given themselves the opportunity, through, mostly, their ability.

Can u not see what i am saying, im talking about the future not now, of course having ability means something now but if they go on to do nothing its wasted and means nothing.

Of course I get what you are saying. No point in having the ability and not go on and make the most of it.

But you have to have it, to get noticed, to give yourself the opportunity

Innate talent can be somewhat supplanted by the ability to run, pass and tackle all day, basically technical ability... English teams are a good example of that, German teams used to be an example of that until recently. But ultimately it's no real replacement for talent.

That's why Spain and Italy piss all over English teams. The Spanish and Italians can do all the running and passing, but they have a level above basic technical skill... they have real, developed talent.

Scotland, on the other hand, firmly believes that a team needs neither talent nor technical abilty... so long as they can blooter long balls upfield for 90 minutes before collapsing in a heap, a Scottish player can eat all the pies, smoke all the fags, and drink all the beer they like.

And that's why Scottish teams are shite. Because professionalism isn't something Scottish teams care for... see The Huns under PLG, Hibs under Collins, and Aberdeen under McGhee for examples of that.
