Dundee Utd - Dundee Moscow 2-2

Recommended Posts

Aye, Peter Houston "plotting victory" in Moscow. He has got to be the most overrated manager since Levein.

Plotting victory in Moscow the same way Napoleon did, with largely the same results. Almost 200 years to the day, funnily enough...

There's a team that was spanking Barcelona on a regular basis. Scottish football is mince and will be until a collective wakening up happens. Hopefully followed shortly after with smelling the fucking coffee.

Yet Regan and Doncaster desperately wanted to keep, and now desperately want to return to, a status quo that has led to Scottish clubs descending to the level of amateur football.

Scottish football is fucked, and will remain so until Scottish clubs eject Celtic, Sevco, and those who run the SFA, from Scottish football.

They were beaten by a seriously well funded and very good team. I don't think there's much to be embarassed about really - it all comes down to money these days.

Money isn't everything, it sometimes the generic excuse for failure, especially in Scottish Football. A "decent" coach should be able to organise a side with professional footballers to avoid drubbings like that even with known limitations. What happened to there are no easy games any more?

Was there not a cypriot team that did well in Champions League last year?

I'm betting Real Madrid had a fair few quid invested in their team when they played a wee provincial team from the North East of Scotland a few years back.

Cash isn't the be all and end all... Aberdeen have been beaten on a regular... a depressingly regular... basis by teams of bakers and posties. Aberdeen will no doubt go out of a cup to a team of performing Jack Russell Terriers this very year, and all they get is a few Crunchies and Squeaky toys.

Not sure what the Jack Russells will be getting though.

It is about money now. Money allows you to hire better staff to train the better players that you can afford to pay more money, whilst training in the better facilities that money has allowed you to pay for. Money has created the gulf between us and the likes of England etc...20 odd years ago the wages and transfer fees on offer down there weren't as ridiculous as they are now meaning we could compete. However, now we have no marks like Wigan and Middlesbrough and the like being able to spend more money than the likes of us and teams like Ajax.

If we had more money we (scottish football as a whole) could afford to pay better wages, keeping the better players here instead of them heading to division 2 down south. Better players means better football to watch...and so on and so forth

That is correct if you're looking to compete with the English on their terms. That's the way the likes of the Penguin see it.

We have 10% of the UK's population here and we can do much better. We can't simply try to compete with them equally.

I'm looking for us to compete in general, not just against England. That was just an example. We simply can't compete against many countries anymore. Just look at European results in recent years!

Money would help us narrow this gap as we could buy better players who youngsters could learn from and build better facilities to train them.

If dundee utd had been able to keep some of the players they've lost in the last few years to the championship they might have put up more of a fight. Unfortunately it's cash that stopped them!

Getting hammered by a team with massive resources isn't half as bad as tankings from Sigma, Kaunas, Maribor etc.

It's a tanking from a team who are struggling at the very bottom of their league, and who have not even scored after their 3 games (F-0 A-7) so far who are obviously struggling with their game.

I'd say that was pretty humiliating.

Different if it was a side who were on form or performing averagely at best.

What's the point in making excuses for them? :dontknow:

To be honest, years of mismanagement, and huge debts caused by a short sighted approach to building up the football clubs has caused us and others to struggle. Lets be honest here, would the clubs be so interested in "investing" in youth unless they had been forced to. Idiotic decisions by those still in charge are the root cause of our problems.

Excuses? Didn't realise pointing out the fact Dynamo are massively more resourced was excusing them as such.

Fact is teams with more money are generally built with better players, bigger squads, better facilities and most likely better coaching. Ergo they have all the advantages and can make a financially smaller team look silly.

Sure sometimes smaller teams can overcome this but they can't do it all the time unfortunately.

I'm not the slightest bothered if people think they were embarassed or not - i didn't follow the game or anything about it, just mentioning that Dynamo were on a different plane financially thats all.

Kelts comments about small team beating Real Madrid etc is true but then when we beat Real Madrid we didn't get to that level overnight. We took our share of punishments in Europe in preceeding seasons and learned from that. We started to take the scalps of established teams over time, building our confidence and improving our style of play. So yes its great when small clubs can do this but it can take time for that to happen.

Anyway, Tommy has entirely the correct idea. Who give a shit really.
