It's about as pointless an award as the team with the least yellow/red cards. If it brightens up his life what's the harm in it?For what it's worth his pen was a million times better than the dazzler's at firhill v queens park. 1 Link to comment

dj_bollocks
Lol and after this in the Daily Weegie…. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ronny-deila-tells-virgil-van-5231057 Ronny Deila tells Virgil van Dijk: If you think you're good enough for England then prove it in the San Siro CELTIC gaffer challenges Dutch stopper to shut out Inter Milan and let the whole of Europe know he's got what it takes on the big stage. Celtic's Virgil van Dijk checks in at Glasgow airport ahead of his side's clash with Milan VIRGIL VAN DIJK yearns to play at the top level of European football. Now Celtic boss Ronny Deila is urging his Dutch star to step into one of the game’s iconic arenas in Milan and prove to the entire continent that he’s up to the job.Van Dijk has a huge part to play tonight if the Scottish champions are to realise their dream of earning a result at the magical San Siro. While Deila knows his team must score to go through having drawn the first leg 3-3 in Glasgow seven days ago, the Norwegian is acutely aware that the defensive solidity lacking on home soil will also have to be found and a balancing act perfected.Van Dijk and partner Jason Denayer endured a torrid time at Celtic Park and the concession of three away goals to Roberto Mancini’s men has left the Serie A giants in pole position at the halfway point of the tie.Deila, though, reckons his young backline duo have the talent to give his team the platform they’ll need to launch a historic Italian raid. For centre-half van Dijk, in particular, the stage is set perfectly. In Pictures: Celtic leave Glasgow and head to Milan Celtic’s smooth operator canters through domestic tasks in first gear but in order to clinch the move to the English Premiership that he desires, the 23-year-old needs to hit overdrive in places such as Milan.Deila believes he can do it but only if he concentrates on the job in hand and not the rich rewards which may come his way if he gets the job done and the Scottish champions forge a path into the last 16 of the Europa League. The Celtic boss said: “If you think too much about what is going to happen before the game then you have already lost it.“You have to think about the match, take it like it is and treat it like every other game.“Virgil van Dijk is more than good enough to be a top player at this level. It is just a matter of relaxing and doing the same things he does in Scotland.“Scott Brown does it and it is all about experience.“Sometimes these matches can get built up too much but Brown has more than 100 big games under his belt and when the pressure is on you that is when you need to show yourself. Craig Williamson/SNS GroupCeltic's Virgil Van Dijk (left) battles with David Clarkson “In Scotland, van Dijk just goes out and plays the game – and that is what he needs to do against Inter.“It is about having the right focus and every player has to do that.“We are reaching for the Champions League level and these games are Champions League level.“We’ll get good answers about our players and our team.“These are the most important games to play. Virgil and Jason are both young players and they can show where they are right now.“There are lot of young players on the pitch who haven’t played in so many of these sort of games and in this atmosphere.Celtic hit out at 'tiny minority' of fans who use flares and tell them to stop tarnishing the name of the club“I think they can get through it in a good way but they have to play more as a unit in the back four.”Deila’s final point made reference to a possible change of tack from the manager tonight. The Parkhead gaffer has his set ideas and a philosophy about the way football should be played.High-pressing, high-octane, high- energy stuff is his preference but Delia accepts the San Siro may be the type of arena where such principles have to be tweaked. The thrilling first leg between the sides at Celtic Park was open.In fact, it was too open even for a manager who adores the attacking side of the game.Deila said: “For me, there were a lot of positive things coming out of last Thursday. Celtic manager Ronny Deila checks in at Glasgow airport ahead of his side's clash with Milan “But we don’t get punished so hard in the Scottish league because we have 70 per cent possession in almost every game. So it is more about balance and offensive marking in the defence instead of having somebody go at you.“It is different. It gives me and the staff and the players more questions that we have to work on.“We are going to create chances if we continue with the same things but there are some defensive things we have to get rid of.“We were too wide in the defence. We have to be more compact in the centre of the pitch.“The midfield was quite good but we need to be more disciplined in the back four and also have to be a little bit more conscious in the attack and play the match with a little more balance.“The game is 90 minutes. We only need one goal if we don’t concede anything. So we need to have different plans whatever the result is.“We have a lot of options now but we have to find the right match plan and find the right players to do it.”In Pictures: Are Celtic cursed in the San Siro? One thing is for sure, Celtic are here with their business heads on.While Inter players spent a chunk of their training session at Parkhead last week taking selfies, Deila’s not interested in his surroundings.Focus, focus and more focus is the mantra as he concluded: “We have to be ourselves. That is the most important thing.“I think we have played good matches away in Europe this season. We drew 2-2 down in Salzburg after playing a good game at Maribor and we should have won that game down there.“We have to take something of these things with us. We are in good shape now and have good confidence.“We did fantastic in the first game with Inter and it is going to be a big experience.“It will be some atmosphere but it won’t be any worse than what the Inter Milan players faced at Celtic Park.“The San Siro reminds me of the Santiago Bernabeu but selfies? It might be okay afterwards. Not before the game though.” Link to comment

fine-n-dandy
Fuck me. The usual media sucking the cock of celtic. They were great Ten men & held the mighty Inter to 1-0 What could have been if VVD wasn't sent off? Inter went into the tie WINNING. All they were bothered about was not conceding a goal & thus didn't "really" push for goals. Celtic basically (Guidetti in particular) dived & cheated trying to win penalties & freekicks (Armstrong as well) & how shite is that over rated wee twat Forrest? 1 Link to comment
rumpus
T'was a strange choice of player to take off though; Mackie Stephens instead of Goodetti or armstrong. We could beat them no problem so long as McLean doesn't get a start Link to comment
fine-n-dandy
Love seeing the outrage of the Tims when they get a decision against them in Europe. ^This. They get normal refs in Europe & biased refs domestically & the stats speak for themselves. 6 yellow cards tonight (2 of them resulting in a red) & V V D has received 6 yellows this season but only two in domestic football. They get protected in domestic football because they can afford the bribes here & they can't in Europe. Link to comment
fine-n-dandy
I was hoping that Scepo was the answer but as I've said in another thread, he doesn't seem to fit into Ronny's system - he's more a box player/link man. So we would need to be identifying someone now, ready for the Summer Sales - and not in August but when the window opens in June, so he can bed in for the CL Qualifiers in July with good pre-season training. Confident aren't they. Link to comment
