Cross Border Cup Competition

Recommended Posts

Fuck this sounds shit.

The prospect of a cross border cup competition between Scottish Premiership clubs and English sides is being discussed by the Scottish Professional Football League board.

A one-off competition against clubs outwith England's top flight is being looked at by an SPFL working group.
SPFL board member Mike Mulraney told BBC Scotland: "It's been talked about.
"It's a medium term objective and would be a minimum of three to five years away, but it has been discussed."
Another SPFL source said: "A working group has been looking at this. There is some interest in it and some encouragement has been given from some English clubs. It would be a one-off competition."
It is understood at least five top Scottish clubs have expressed an interest in the possibilities of a cross border competition, which it is hoped would prove attractive to a television audience.

.This'll never happen, pie in the sky stuff.

Priorities should be:

1. Ticket prices

2. Alcohol at games

3. Safe standing

Not this utter garbage.

This idea sounds fucking horrendous so i would expect that Neil 'lego top' Donkeycaster has already made this top priority for him and all of his staff. Before you know it it will be time to kick off the inaugral 'Unable to find sponsorship Anglo-Caledonian lower division English versus Scottish teams not in Europe Cup'.

If you can't go without a drink for two hours there's something wrong with you. It's not safe for children!

I probably wouldn't mind this as a quick pre season type thing. Get the TV involved and make a bit of cash. Anything serious and you're just getting stupid. I think it would be interesting to see how we fare against some of the Championship sides. There's maybe a chance to give our league a bit of credibility and stop folk saying we'd struggle in League 1.

I seem to be in the minority but I like the idea of a pan-British tournament. Spirit of the Dambusters, and all that ;)

However the actual proposal mentioned above leaves much to be desired.

I think the idea of a British League Cup would be cracking, instead of all the nations playing their own moribund league cups. I know there was something tried before, but I dont know anything about that.

I was thinking of all 4 home nations at first, but to keep fixtures down we could limit it to Scotland and England only; Wales and NI are pish anyway.

Each nation could play an internal league cup, up until the equivalent of their quarter finals (ie 8 teams left).

Then the remaining teams could come together in a single, combined finale - it would throw up some interesting fixtures alright.

Playing the same teams as many as 4 - 6 times as season (as can happen in scotland) is dull as dishwater and anything thats new or fresh can only be a good thing.

While it wouldnt have the same status as a european trip, it would still be a good laugh to go away with the lads for a couple of days and have a piss up in (say) London or Manchester, before taking in the game at an EPL-standard stadium.

Whats not to like?

It would get decent sponsorship and so for most clubs would probably be a decent little earner. It would also be more prestigious to win it, than any of the existing league cups. it could carry a european place even.

Fuck it, why not... ditch the League Cup and play an Anglo-Anglo Bitches cup instead.

First step towards full integration of leagues north and south of the imaginary border.

Aberdeen vs Liverpool, Man United/City, Arsenal Newcastle... sounds rare to me... get a bit of those fuckers' Telly money.

Or Aberdeen vs Ross County and struggling to stay in the black.

Time to stop all this fucking SPFL nonsense... it's nothing more than a closed shop for the 2 Weegie teams anyway. English wouldn't pander to their shite for one second.

EDIT: This might be the first time me and Creeping Jesus there ^^^^ have ever agreed on something.

Creeping Jesus

It is not the first time, we have formerly agreed on:

- the desireability and great prowess of Jeep Cherokee vehicles (esp the XJ model)

- the high quality of the "Evil Dead" series of films

- various points regarding various armed conflicts

Probably more too, for example us both being Aberdeen fans implies agreement there too! :)

I see... if you ditch your god-bothering nonsense we can get married.

EDIT: Oh, you'd have to get over your homophobia first... forgot about that :fatshaft:
