Inferior Clubs Games In Spfl

Recommended Posts

Accies turn things round and now lead 2-1 at Motherwell. Hibs and Killie also losing. Despite the shitshow, the draw is turning out to be a decent result as things stand

True but when you look above 3rd place in the table it all becomes pretty irrelevant really. The old duopoly is well and truly back to stay. The gap is already huge and is embarrassing for the rest of the league. We are back to a two team league with everyone else as distant also rans so I just can't get excited about the prospect of us reclaiming 3rd place this season.

The 15 point gap in our league between 1st and 3rd is exactly the same in the english premier league

Are you seriously trying to compare the leagues? How many clubs have won the EPL in this decade alone? Are the team currently top of the EPL the reigning multiple times in a row champions who along with one other club basically win the league between them decade after decade after decade?

Oh no that's right the club currently 15 points ahead in England haven't won the league for 30 years.

Completely pointless comparison.

Hows it a pointless comparison?

The team in 3rd, 15 points behind 1st have spent over 300m on their team

Its incredibly relevant to point out our league having a 15pt gap from 3rd to 1st isnt unheard of

It's pointless because as you well know it's a bit of an anomaly in England for the club at the top to be so far ahead of the chasing pack especially at this stage of the season. In Scotland with a strong old firm it's not. We all know that. We all know in Scotland when there is a strong old firm the rest always get left trailing in their wake. They have won every league between them since 1985.

That's hardly the case in England though is it seeing as a 5th different club in that country is about to win the EPL in the last 10 years and the club about to win it is their most successful one ever yet hasn't won it for 30 years. It is a far more competitive league with many more clubs capable of winning it as the stats demonstrate. Completely different to the set up in Scotland hence my comment that it is a pointless comparison.

And the draw turns out to be an utterly shite result for Hearts who couldn't have wished for results elsewhere to turn out as disastrously for them as they have.

Marooned!. :swear:

Only teams they made ground on were Celtic, Motherwell, Hibs & Killie lol

Only one of those teams they have any chance (slim as that may be) of catching is Killie.

Gutted McInnes failed to savage that Hearts side & take proper advantage of Wells slip up

Since 1985, there have been 9 different winners of the English top league, there has only been 1 season where any other team has had a realistic chance of winning, us in 1991.

Our league is a fucking joke.

Link to comment

Since 1991 there has been 6 winners there

They have twice as many teams as us

So, divide 6 by 2, gives 3

Only one team more has won the league down there than up here then

Not too different?

Fair point. But just because it happens in England, Germany, Spain or wherever doesn't mean we should accept it in Scotland.

That's one of the main problems with Scottish Football, there is no innovation, only cheap imitation.

Losing Rooney to injury and Ward going back to the murderers cost us it 5 years ago.

Our lack of activity in January was shameful but we had shite luck as well. If Liverpool hadn’t had recalled Ward and Griffiths got injured instead of Rooney we wouldn’t have been far away

So it's an anomaly in england?

Is it not an anomaly here too based on recent seasons???

By far the biggest anomaly up here in recent seasons was the huns going bust which turned a two team league into a one team league for several years until they finally got their shit back together under a different guise. Yes Aberdeen finishing above the huns two years running was an anomaly but they were still finding their feet and nowhere near their former strength hence regular 4 and 5 goal batterings from Celtic and first round euro exits to teams from Luxembourg. Not the case now. Unless they collapse financially again then most will expect them to at the very least retain their current strength and two teams will carry on where they left off prior to the huns liquidation and year after year continue to dominate an otherwise very weak league full of much smaller clubs.

That is not the case in England where the club currently miles in front haven't won their domestic league for 30 years despite winning the CL twice during that period and losing another two CL finals. They will be the 5th club in the last decade to win the league down there.

The SPL is one of the most predictable leagues in Europe everyone knows that barring a miracle only two teams will win the league up here in the next 30 years. That is certainly not the case in England there are multiple teams down there with the resources to win the league.

1. The number of teams actually doesn't matter in this discussion, it's not really relevant unless we are looking for the title to be far far wider spread across lots of teams.

2. we have just 2 winners in 30 years or whatever. Very few other leagues can compare to that level of monopolisation. (If any)

3. why do we only compare to other football leagues? As mentioned above a complete lack of innovation is one of the biggest problems with our game.

I'll keep repeating it but think about this - our national sport is run as an amateur enterprise. There's nothing professional about it.
