Mr John
What a bizarre post. It's a football forum m8. Again the detachment. You are socially interacting with other people, in a reduced fashion, but still interacting. But hey, if you want to go on believing everyone here is just a figment of your imagination, then proceed as you were. I don't much care for you or your opinions and won't mention it again. Agree with Hulk on the Considine tackle and it's interesting seeing more people add observations on Logan's behaviour. To compare the two, one used to be a centre- back and the other wants to be a winger. There's a lot of posters here crying out for Shinnie to be LB, but Is it time to rotate Logan with someone else on the right? Actually, can we just clone Shinnie? He's played RB too hasn't he? mcdougall(4)
Considine's yellow card tackle was a thing of beauty and it was something that had to be done to calm down their no12. But the Logan doubters in here are correct; I think he is guilty of backing off a bit too much. His second-half performance against Kilmarnock was superb, he was tough to get past and stood up to them better. To be a good defender, you don't need to tackle, you need to make life difficult for the attacking player and Logan hasn't been doing this enough; even merely just showing an attacker to the side would force a striker to make a decision; King had carte blanche to do what he liked in the build-up to their second goal. The best full-back that ever drew breath was Javier Zanetti. Two red cards in his career, 12 years apart. Such a technically gifted footballer he could probably play up front and score 20 a season. He was tough but I don't remember him much having to make last-ditch tackles. He was magnificent. Wasn't even the best in his City Link to comment
something_or_other
Wasn't even the best in his City + played in midfield so much in his peak years that is he a full back? (but yeah maldini has it) Link to comment
V for Vendetta
Well said Doogs. He is a pointless prick . Feel sorry for his son.Spends too much time trying to throw his weight around and not enough actually thinking things through. Expect I'll get the usual promise of a 2 day haunting now. Ah well. robbojunior
So what do you mean by: "But anyone who has any sort of ambition would look at that performance and look at everything that has happened this season and wish for better in certain regards."Come on its nae that hard. It means we did enough to get through and are happy but we want to look at that performance, and many previous performances and try and improve on them because there are very clearly areas where there is room for improvement. Doncomitant
I wouldn't put it quite like that, but it'll be interesting to see if we put Shinnie at LB, or bring Harvie in? I'm concerned that McInnes plays his favourites too much, when he could be giving young/squad players more opportunities. That said, McKenna came in cold and has had a hell of a run, so maybe we assume too much. The full back and centre mid positions have been a worry for a few seasons, but we've got away with it, so fuck it.It will be yet another tactical McInnesclass resulting in Mark Reynolds being the most experienced left footed defender going to Left Back. No way would he put Harvie in. He will justify not doing so by saying he wants experience in alongside young Scott Link to comment

Maybe something similar will happen with left back (can but hope) Link to comment
mavv1903
Good win, pity about shipping 2 goals...Onwards to Killie. Oh and it was fucking freezing Link to comment
dave_min
Re Shay backing off. I wonder if he has so much faith in Joe that he's quite happy for the opponent to shoot knowing that Joe will save it? Nah, it's because he's a pretty average defender. It's a massive weakness in his game. 1 Link to comment
Mr John
He's still much better than many if his peers in this league, I mean there isn't even a 1st pick RB for the national team!!! Several times he swept up & cleared when other members of that defence were beaten. Credit where it's due. Link to comment

I dont think I said I was happy with everything in the team either, more that I was happy to win comfortably at home and progress to the next round. Is your position that you cant be both happy to win comfortably AND be critical of particular aspects where weaknesses are evident? 1 Link to comment
Chewie37
Logan backs off because he’s been coached not to dive in, it works more often than not because in the SPFL the player running at him will make a mistake and he can mop up or jostle/usher them out of play. It’s when the backing off leads to a goal that we get rightly pissed off, all about decision making at key moments. Our whole defence has been guilty of backing off runners while DM has been in charge Link to comment
Doncomitant
Logan always has backed off a little too much. He is clearly told to do so but he shouldn't be backing off to the extent he often does. He allows players to run at him & INTO the box far too often. Yes backing off, slowing the attacking player a little to give our other defenders time to get back in position is sometimes required but he should be making the tackle, or forcing the player the make his move before he gets as far as the box. This is one of Logans biggest defensive faults I have noticed a few times. Certainly something I hope he is working on improving, as it is so obvious it will become a target for other teams, much like Andy Considine is for his pace & weakness in tracking his man.
