Certainly on this seasons evidence.  I'm quite shocked at how good GMS has been this season.  I didn't think he was capable of such consistency in performance. Every week he's one of our best players. Easily our most creative player- we've been very over-reliant on him creating something, going forward.

I'd like to see us try a different midfield set up, Shinnie's alright, but he gets first pick in there because he's captain.  How are we without him on the pitch and who fills in?  Ball and Ferguson?  Do we bring in one of our dropped CMs (Gleeson, Forrester, Tansey)?

Normally would be Ball with Ferguson and persist with 2 wide 2 up top. 1 of the 2 wide (McGinn) doesn’t tend to do 2 games in a week. 2 of the 2 up top play like they’re wearing different tops.

He's no Kenny McLean in terms of quality. We would definitely need to replace his drive in the middle of the park though. And Dean Campbell will be a year older, looking to break through...

We all know our transfer record is poor and McInnes needs to up his game.

We'd miss his leadership more than anything.  As a central midfielder, on our budget, a player of Shinnies quality should be replaceable (... but Derek McInnes recent form worries me!).  As others have said, in terms of quality, McLean a much bigger loss.

We'd actually be better with a passing midfielder to play alongside Ferguson.

 

Ferguson is better as Shinnie's replacement in my mind.

 

But yes, we'll miss him as a driving force and a leader. His workrate can never be questioned

We will struggle to replace Shinnie. He's never injured, has great drive and determination and has been a very good captain for the club. He's a different type of player from McLean. But when you see who McInnes bought to replace McLean and Rooney it worries me that the same thing happens when he tries to replace Shinnie.

Just pointing out that the notion we can easily sign a replacement that is better than or equal to Shinnie is a wee bitty fanciful.
