Lazio 1 Bologna 2.

Champions league place,he might just stay there.

He's likely to earn a major amount more at Inter or Napoli, so he'll probably move if an offer is accepted.

If.

There will come a point where Bologna won't want to let a player leave on a free and will take £20M.

Not sure how long his contract there is though?

Genuinely don’t believe Bologna will unseat Atalanta for 4th, as good as they have been I think 5th is their ceiling, they will do magnificent to hold back fiorentina, Napoli and Roma, great season regardless for them

I watched them* beat Fiorentina on Wednesday, they are twice the team they are. Can’t comment on the others.

Aye they really are, zirkzee having some season as well, Roma have the likes of lukaku and dybala as a strike force and would be criminal for them not to be in the champions league, which could happen as mourinho heads turned again and wants to move, would say Bologna have a better side than Atalanta also although they try and outscore teams with good effect, will be tight come the end.

Yeah it’s a tricky one from a dons perspective, if Bologna get champions league which looks 50/50 I doubt they’d want to sell him.

Would probably result in a bigger contract for him. We’d have to wait a bit longer but no chance he’s going to end up doing a Fraser / McKenna and going on a bosman.

surely

Aye Bologna have a similar model to us (albeit on a much bigger scale), they bring in bargains and look to move them on for big money. They will be seeing Ferguson, along with prob Zirkzee as their main assets to sell on in the summer. No way they'd want to allow him to run his contract down

If we get a few million from a Ferguson sell on, and mega millions for Miovski in the summer, a percentage of it should be set aside as some kind of elite youth player fund so that when guys like Pirie and Carroll are being prised away from us before they're anywhere near first team level we can use the funds to make them a competitive offer to stay until they play some competitive games for us. Otherwise there's virtually no point to the youth system.

We need to improve the contracts offered to elite level youngsters coming through - not just invest in the youth academy generally then continually lose the best ones as they come through.

Have Pirie,  Carroll or anyone,  Terry Taylor ages ago proved since leaving that they WERE elite?

Actually when I see Athletico mentioned I think his fuller answer was he’d like to try somewhere else, maybe Germany or Spain rather than come straight back to Uk.

Father spoke about it over Xmas when the tims were linked.

They don't have enough coppers in the biscuit tin to even consider a bid for Lewis Ferguson.

Can’t be dissing the youth set up.

we brought through a young right back and played him about 30 times in a team that finished 8th and sold him for 7 million. Now he can’t get a game for Bolton.

We must aim to continue

There's valid points on both sides but I'd say the premise of trying harder to hold on to young players we've developed is a good one when you're in the same conversation spunking the guts of a million quid on Jimmy, Pap & Shady Mo.

Really difficult to compete when the likes of Arsenal & Chelsea are sniffing about Lewis Carrol; even if he was never to see the first team bench, it's probably stuck on that he'd go on to have a good career in England where just about any club in the second and third tiers (and many in the fourth), can pay him as much, or more, over a 15 year career, than Aberdeen can. He could stay at Aberdeen, wait and wait and wait to get a chance, and could very easily end up in part-time football by the time he is 20.

The key to it; give them a good performance-related pro contract and make it the "Aberdeen Way" to blood them in the team. Very easy to put at least two 16 or 17 year old on the bench with the size of matchday squads we're allowed.
