Clydeside_Sheep
We were down at Alton Towers for a few days there. (Staffordshire is it?) We stayed in a nearby place called Butterton, which had lots of signs saying it was a "doubly thankful village". I didn't know what this meant, so I looked it up: it means that, amazingly, through both world wars, every single man from the village who was called up survived the war. After WW1, places where they didn't lose a single man killed called themselves "thankful" - hence "doubly thankful" if they repeated the feat during WW2. I thought that was quite nice. A friend claims that "doubly thankful" places don't ring their church bells on remembrance sunday, as most places do, out of respect for places which did have men killed. Link to comment

Redforever86
Brussels isn’t that great. Went about ten years ago and can only imagine it’s worse. I’d spend one night there then get out to the countryside or Bruges etc. The beers were still almost a novelty then but now available everywhere. Hit a few beer cafes, delirium bar, get a super bacon then head else where. Link to comment
