Ramandu
It's rarely about top speed anyway, it's about speed over a given distance. Tall folk can be fast, but over 5-10 metres being big's a disadvantage. Link to comment
Ewebasher
Loved this quote from McInnes "There’s a goal at the end of the pitch for a reason. We seem to have grasped the importance of that." Bit shocking it took them until December to realise it though... Would have thought that would have been covered in 'Football for Dummies Volume 1' Link to comment
Guest the shepherd
I’ll forgive him that after the 0-1 game where we had something like 30 shots on goal, when Devlin was immense and Cockney Don walked there and back.So Cockney Don is Stephen Gough? Link to comment
mcdougall(4)
Usain Bolt is pretty quick for a big man too. Not in football terms according to Ross McCormack Link to comment
Ramandu
How tall is Usain Bolt?Quite tall. How often does a footballer have to run 50m in a straight line at full pace? Link to comment

Clydeside_Sheep
Me? I'm just stating that being big doesn't mean that you are automatically a clumsy oaf. I dont think hes a clumsy oaf. I tend to refer to any "big unit" as a big galoot, as a term of affection. I am big galoot! Link to comment
Chewie37
Quite tall. How often does a footballer have to run 50m in a straight line at full pace?Every game? Edit: unless Niall McGinn obvs Link to comment
Ramandu
What I'm saying is that tall people can be fast, but take a bit of time to get going. Usain Bolt isn't exceptionally fast over the first 50m. Speed in football is primarily about really short dashes. I realise it's a pretty pointless debate though. Link to comment

Ramandu
Yep, fair enough. Meant to say that he's not exceptionally fast 'for a 100m Olympic finalist'. But then I've checked, and it turns out he is- by 40m there's nobody faster. I'm sure I've still got a point somewhere about tall people taking longer to get going, but given that I ballsed up making it, mock away. Link to comment

KidCreole
Watched may receive the ball just outside the box, He could have ran into space and fire a shot off but chose to stop and cross the ball, Really telling how short of confidence the boy is, he still brings a lot to the team but I wonder how long the manager will keep faith in him and can we afford a player on his wages to not do his main task of doing goals Link to comment

His stride is much bigger than all other competitors though, so by 40m he'd have made up for the slower start. Carl Lewis was the same. Link to comment
