For now, that position holds but there's bound to be a point down the line where UEFA will call time on all the grounds that don't come up to spec and put a time limit on either upgrading them to meet the standards or build a new stadium..........or face having ties moved to grounds that do comply Doubtful. Pretty sure Anfield also has grandfather rights and will never be able to comply due to pitch size. I may be wrong with it being Anfield but definitely one of the big guns who UEFA wouldnt dare evict to a different stadium for European games. Link to comment

Grandfather rights are removed as soon as you rebuild a stand. Liverpool didn't rebuild the Anfield Road end, they left lower deck and have just expanded it. That means the grandfather rights remain. However, it's not Uefa compliant which is why Anfield isn't eligible to be part of the U.K. Euro 2028 bid. Same with Hearts. The new main stand had to comply but the rest of the stadium is fine. For Aberdeen, if they could build a second tier on top of the Merkland, main or south stands (they can't) they could keep the pitch dimensions as they are. However, as soon as they knock one down, they need to rebuild to Uefa regulations, which if they did would significantly reduce the capacity. 1 Link to comment

We’re looking at being part of a larger development which sadly means we work at the councils pace. It isn't the council that's holding things up with this...it's Dave, who is arguing over who pays for the stadium. Link to comment

As Dunty explained a few posts back. As soon as we reach the stage that we need to redevelop stands at PIttodrie (which lets be honest based on the crumbling wreck the stadium is won't be too far away) we will then need to meet current UEFA regulations which based on the footprint of the stadium would greatly reduce capacity. Forget about all the fuck ups in the past, anyone that thinks Pittodrie ia a long term oprion is kidding themselves. Link to comment

You could see UEFA's direction of travel at Newcastle last night (although Ive no idea the eligibility or otherwise of St J Park specifically). All Tifos, hyped passion and spectacle. Football was really an optional extra although fair play they grabbed it with both hands. Link to comment

They had an impressive (but completely) soulless drone display over St James earlier in the week too. Link to comment

You need to submit applications to discharge conditions and the council take fucking ages to determine those. So, assuming there are some pre-commencement conditions, no they can't start building until they are discharged. Link to comment
caledonia
The economic climate is not right for them/council that imo is why its stalled. council wont help either and be as awkward as possible. Link to comment

For 20 of those 25 years we had Stewart Milne running the club, it's no wonder there was one failure after another regarding the new stadium. Link to comment

BaaBaaRedSheep
Wherever the new stadium ends up (Kingsford, Beach, existing site or AN Other site) the time for talking the talk needs to be over and Cormack and Co need to start walking the walk. Don't even care if Cormack ultimately names the stadium after his grandchildren, just begin the process Dave min? If we could at least observe works starting on site prep that would certainly be a boost. At this rate we'll be still talking about a new stadium when Dave's grandchildren have grandchildren. Deeds not words is what we need. 1 Link to comment
