Think the recruitment team should be looking for plenty defenders as we can probably take any defensive position if we can find a defender version of Miovski eg young player emerging as a full international that has not quite hit the big time yet.

They should also look for a goalkeeper for a pre-contract.

Good shout on the goalkeeper. Think it’s fair to say us and hearts will be competing for 3rd this season, wouldn’t be surprised if Gordon gains them 5-10 points over the season relative to Roos (Roos already costing us 2 on Sat).

Is it?

Lewis is still contracted to us until  summer 2024. If he were to leave in January then we'd need an immediate replacement, not a pre-contract summer incomer. But there's been no indication that he's looking to leave or that any other clubs might be interested in signing him. And he is being used as a bench player, unlike Ramirez now and unlike Bates was. So we'd be throwing cash down the toilet signing a 3rd goalkeeping option on a pre-contract unless we are absolutely certain Lewis was offski next summer

Lewis showed he's still decent towards the end of last season. Don't think there's much between him and Roos at the moment. Roos maybe better shot stopper (on Lewis last season) and Lewis definitely better at commanding the area.

Getting Coulson on a pre-contract would be a very good piece of business. Love the bits of skill he tries and looks quality

Pre contract to sign in January and join in summer 2023.

Bin one or both of Roos/Lewis next summer.

We should continue to look for a move for Lewis to go back down south.

Lewis doesn't command anything, never mind the area. Lewis in his prime was a great shot stopper and that was about it. Roos looks to be a good shot stopper and more comfortable with the ball at his feet which seems to be a key part of how Goodwin wants to play. Both of them pretty hopeless at coming for cross balls or going through a heap of players to win the ball in the air.

That’s not true.
Rarely feared crosses & corners anywhere near Lewis. He was always strong that them. Rest of his game went to shit last season for sure though

Yip agree. Last season Lewis hopeless all round. Before that what made him stand out for me was the amount he caught. No fannying about punching stuff or making things look theatrical, he was just no nonsense.

Hmmm maybe last season is blurring my memories of previous seasons a little - apologies to big Joe if that is the case - but I felt cross balls and high balls into the box were Lewis' biggest weakness (his kicking was fairly hopeless too) - I seem to remember numerous occasions when he'd go to claim a high / cross ball and make a hash of it because he was too soft - he should've been wiping folk out to get to the ball with his height advantage plus the fact he could use his hands, but often ended up in a crumpled heap on the ground, or somehow colliding with the post.

You thinking of Langfield?
