I personally am just impressed that during the melee they stopped to survey their attackers to confirm they were indeed muslim and that this was a factor in their aggravation.

There's a window of a few hundred years where the white man in Europe has dominated global events. This is coming to an end as we speak. Whites will become a minority pretty much everywhere in the next century, and therefore future inventions will be the domain, largely, of people who aren't white. During the couple of hundred years of Industrial revolution pretty much everything we consider 'worthwhile' is the invention of the white man... this is the result of Europe being the first region past the Industrial Post. It helped Europeans dominate the globe, and create a European (ergo white) period of ascendancy.

 

Don't start wanking into your empty cider can about that, though, because this has nothing to do with any kind of inherent 'White Superiority' and more to do with a number of converging, fortuitous factors that worked in our favour.

 

I can demonstrate that lack of inherent superiority by pointing out that there's likely nothing you can teach a person of one race to do that you can teach a person of another race to do. Even swim.

 

The greatest inventions in human history are probably the harnessing of fire (probably an African).... the city state (probably Middle Eastern)... The Wheel (probably Middle Eastern)... Language( probably African)... I'm not trying to be a smartarse (hence deleting my response), but if you were familiar with European history from Diocletian to the Renaissance you wouldn't have to ask about the impact of Islam on Europe.

 

99% of people probably aren't familiar with that stretch of time, and understandably so. I didn't call fire an invention, I referred to the harnessing of fire as an 'invention'. Which it is. Fire doesn't spontaneously pop up when you need to cook a fish, nor does a wheel self-assemble when you need to transport shit. In fact many civilisations didn't even concieve of the wheel as a means of transportation, which kind of nixes any notion of this being the result of natural progression. Like it or not, some guy came up with the wheel. Some guy built a camp fire. Some guy fermented wine, even if only by accident.

 

None of the things I mentioned can be automatically assumed to be 'a natural progression'. Necessities to civilisation, yes, but natural or somehow inevitable, no.

How many people would have the want or need to be in a smiddy in Equatorial Africa? Much more pleasant and productive in cooler climes. Yes, I think the development has been mainly due to climate. Many other factors as you rightly point out - but those same factors assembled in central Africa, Asia or Middle East didn't have the same outcome.

 

Multiple cultures will prevale from now proportionally to their procreation capability. The Muslim teachers realise this and encourage their followers to have large families - not dissimilar to Australia's push for population only a decade ago. Have a child for you, a child for your spouse and a child for the country.
