The first time we played Rijeka the first leg away we caught them by surprise took the game to them and just attacked from the get go resulting in us scoring first.at home they had a splendid home European record of not getting beat there including results against, dortmund and Real Madrid not Beatin in years there, pressure was on them to respond with the crowd getting agitated,so they started to open up and press us leaving holes in there back line which we took full advantage of with the pace of McGinn and Hayes and the outball of McLean to create killer 60 yard passes.after the second went in they were shell shocked and lost all composure, the second leg was more of the normal Rijeka 2-2 draw at Pittodrie we’re they looked very dangerous, was one of McInnes better tactical performances and really is the barometer in which you can see McInnes slide as we went into the game this year with no intention of attacking them but meekly sitting back and defending against a team that can hurt you by giving them time, sadly this time we didn’t have the pace on the wings or a player that could retain the ball and pass, was a shocking tactical performance by a manager that appears to give in when the realisation sets in that we are playing a more qaulity opposition ie (arse cheeks) instead off giving it a go at least,so no different mentalities between the 2 Rijeka games the first one when he was up and coming, excited, invested, just after a cup win and now tired, disheveled,Beaton down accepting of his fate instead of coming up with new solutions to problems when they arise, now he puts on the trusted players and blames anything he can when it goes tits up ie injuries, sickening

A very comma-nding post.

We never attacked Rijeka from the off in the away match in 2015. They could have easily been up by a couple of goals (the boy Tomasov missed a sitter) before the first half water break and Andrew Considine's opener. What we did after that was knock the stuffing out of them after Peter Pawlett's goal and saw out the game brilliantly.

Yes a know we rode our luck early on in that match but the premise is the same, they underestimated us and we game managed well,in Europe you need that bit of luck when your the unfancied underdog

Ps sorry for the lack ov punctuation in the previous posts

What absolute drivel. I wonder what people like you think before posting. Rijeka haven't played Real Madrid since 1984 and have never played Dortmund. Mclean the outball? he only came on as a sub in the 67th minute of the game. The fact that's how your post has started I will refrain from reading the rest.

Do folk genuinely believe we couldnt have done better in Europe since McInnes took over? I reckon he'd actually realise himself we should have done better.

Some morons would do anything to try defend him.

Amazes me how these folk are so willing (even desperate) to give him all the credit for results like Rejeka win etc. but he is blameless & the players get full blame for the pish results where he’s bottled it before a ball was kicked.

He’s lived a fkn charmed life in his Europa games just for the simple fact he’s gotten us there consistently (against what has been a relatively easy challenge) yet other than one or two decent results has actually been pretty fkn shite if truth be told for the most part.

In fairness the year we beat Groningen and eventually went out to Sociedad was a decent effort considering the draw.
