I didn't say that. I thought you'd avoid big chains with exploitative practices and drink local. Obviously not

In my personal experience/the experience of friends the most exploitative pubs are the local non chains. Got a couple mates who work at spoons and they are treated OK.

Compare that with a friend who runs the bar at an unnamed place in the Dundee area who's told me horrendous tales of people working 90 hour weeks for a pay that doesn't equal that. Even this pal does stupid amount of shifts for money not befitting.

It's all wage slavery, Moobs. Supporting local doesn't make you more/less of a socialist.

Fuck me, I worked at a local restaurant/pub in Dyce, that isn't a chain, and got paid £3.64 an hit just cause they could. They'd also not give you the tips!

Good mix at the Nether, MHD. Close to the uni so you'll get your uni types, but most the time I'm in there it's guys in tradesmen clothes etc as well.

If you're wanting solid pub food, Braes up the road does good deep fried nonsense and have interesting enough beers on draft normally, if you're into that kinda shit. Some local brews etc.

Plenty cracking pubs on the Perth Road, the Phoenix across from the Nether is good too.

Enjoy your time in Scotlands most underrated city!

Unless your getting serious dough and perks working 90hr weeks in The UK is ridiculous.

No-one (legal) needs to do that.

Some folk are happy to have the job security, or feel pressured, who knows?

I don't know everyone's individual circumstance.

That'd be almost every single minute a bar is open. Fuck that.

Yep.

My pal is a nightmare to try arrange things with, always working. The place is really well thought of though, and expensive, so they are funny about who they employ, hence why he's always there.

Genuine question RF how much do you work during peak season?

Fae the 1 of April until November I won't have a whole day aff (unless I make it to a mates wedding in September). Completely free fae when I decide in November until the next April accept fae a wee but DIY. This has been fucked by Covid last two winters however.

Just depends on staffing/volunteers, ideally would get 2 days a week where I finished by 11am. Majority of the work is done by noon then I just fanny about in the afternoon waiting on folk to check in so it depends how you define work.

It's an interesting dynamic the relationship between hotel, staff and guests.  All nice at face value but an undercurrent of seething resentment between all parties.

Maybe in your experience. 99% of my guests are sound outdoor types. Just the French and the odd other cunt who are wanks.
