How often do we think all 5 would be in peak fitness and form? Probably a handful of games at best. 

The answer is whoever is in form and wouldn't it be great to have a couple of really good options on the bench to bring on rather than face a dramatic drop off in quality should anyone be unavailable?

Barron injured and still going be out for a number of weeks. Clarkson (whilst he's scored 2 screamers) he hasn't been great during games, the type of player McCrorie is he'll pick up bookings and therefore suspensions and he'll be deployed in defence on occasion aswell. 

If it looks like we'll play 4-3-3 as we've done at times then our first choice midfield currently would be Ramadani, Ronan, McCrorie. 

Barron still hasn't signed an extension so the club may already be thinking about cashing in on him in January/next summer.

I could go on and on but judging by how the players were singing his praises and how they were rallying behind him I'm willing to bet that Glass has a long and successful career ahead of him. I also wouldn't be at all against seeing him back in the dugout in a few years time.

Are people really fretting about us actually having 2 decent players for some (we should be aiming for all) positions?

We need competition, I know we've had years of filling the squad out with cloggers and journeyman players but surely people don't actually want our backups to be shite?

McCrorie has to start - vice captain and adds so much pace and energy (and now goals)... Barron has to start as he's potentially the best talent we've produced in years...

Then either Ramadani, Ronan or Clarkson. Other than his goals, Clarkson has been nothing more than tidy. Ramadani I think does a good job sitting and allowing the others to push forward. Ronan would require McCrorie to probably sit deeper. To be honest I don't really know how good Ronan is - just seems some folk think he's going to be the next Zidane or something based on one decent season at St Mirren - he's 24 and not really done anything of great significance. I'm not really seeing all the fuss about him, but hope he proves me wrong if he does sign.

I don't think it's that... it's more a question of, with limited resources and possibly just bringing in one more player... what is the priority position to fill. For me, it's not midfield, but defence we should focus on if we only have space for one more signing. Of course if we can bring in a couple more, then by all means take in another midfielder as well.

From that list, Ramadani, McCrorie and Clarkson are the ones in possession of a starting place, it would be up to Ronan and Barron to displace them

But you'd imagine that Clarkson would be the most at risk, followed by McCrorie. Although with McCrorie there would always be the option of moving him to right back, or we could change formation and drop one of Besuijen or Hayes to fit one of them in

Really does it really matter who doesn't start,  whoever is in form starts.

 It would just be great to have that strength in depth to freshen up and make decent changes during a game. 

We don't want a squad of players definitely starting each week.

Well ideally someone that can cover right back and central defence...otherwise we land up moving mcrorie out of his best position..

When does the transfer window close anyway? Is it this weekend? 

Snodgrass and Rogic still going free. Get Rogic in for a couple seasons rather than Ronan if we still feel the need for a midfielder. Interesting that we've not signed any foreign defenders yet - must be a young foreign defender we're keeping tabs on in the mould of Besoujin, Duk, Miovski etc.

Rogic is never coming here. There are loads of players who still wouldn't look twice at us without a team right now; he is one of them.
