Prices differ over time due to certain brands increases their prices year on year and also depend on the discount given at the time. Even a relatively new watch can be bought 2nd hand for considerably less than RRP.

For instance, if you bought a 2nd hand Seadweller around 5-6 years ago for around 2k, you would probably be looking to pay at least double that now on the 2nd hand market.

thats a lot of dough

obe thing that would put me off is the fact that watches are easily scratched when on your wrist

Its a lot of dough initially but generally something like a Rolex wont lose value over time.

Some watches are easily scratched but plenty of watches use sapphire crystal instead of glass as its usually resistant to scratches.

anyone into them?

love the idea of getting a tired, 20s watch and restoring it to its former glory

in the meantime, (grenwich, obviously), this one just looks like quality!

You'd be unable to restore a watch properly. It's a job for professionals.

Also ensure it comes with certificates.

Away to get one of these bad boys in April.

I'm getting deja vu.

ive always loved the idea of making money from nothing

got my eye on a 24v 2.5l ford probe that i can get for £400...

anyone any advice?

aye but define "properly"?

So that it looks good as new and works good as new.

Have you seen the inside of a watch?

Do you think you could adequately take care of the interior of a watch and restore all the parts professionally?

More power to your elbow if you think yes. I have my doubts you'd be capable of professionally restoring a watch.

Not the most dazzling of watches for that price Boof.

Here's my latest every day watch with oodles of gadgetry, looks great too.

casio-edifice-eqw-a1000b-1aer.png

It's one of the sexiest watches on the planet. I don't need gadgetry. Being good to look at, well made and capable of keeping accurate time is all that's required.

A Casio does not tick those three boxes. No offence.

dunno, maybe i will be...

dont know till you try

did a fine job of the capri after all

Good luck MT, will be your greatest achievement yet in restoring a classic watch, you may need to purchase a different tool box than the one you used on your Capri,

You get much safer buys in the likes of McCalls MT.

They do the background for you before you buy it, means you have peace of mind and a return option if you aint happy.

What age is vintage?

I wonder a what age a Rolex is worth more than you paid for it?

Anything over 20 years old is classed as vintage

aye but define "properly"?

Properly

Well

A Rolex has around 220 moving parts, that 220 tiny little bits that move and make the watch work and keep time.

A watch movement is more complex than most car engines, one wrong bit in place and the whole thing is fucked

It takes a Rolex watch repairer (not maker, just a fixer) around 5 years to get to the point where they would actually be allowed to work on a Rolex. They are usually allowed to work on things like Tudor watches first, thats the Rolex trainer watch.

So I'd recommend getting one that works MT, there's no chance you'd ever be able to do anything with a busted one.

What did Obama say, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

You can cure a pig but you can't educate it.

A European Tour golf winner says this.

I'm sure it would be that bad to fix ones of these. Just take a heuristic approach learn as you go. It'd be no bother you could likely make a lot of money, just buy a watch and fix it. The more expensive obviously the more money you'll make.

I got one of these outta argos:

$T2eC16hHJF8E9nnC9bhyBRWCgUlU9g~~60_35.J

£120, says half price but thats lies, does the job looks not bad. Had another one for less but had all the extra dials that you don't need and wasn't a kinetic.
