I was a big believer in straight malt, no ice, no mixer, no water.

I've been educated by some proper whisky experts and by the staff at the distillery that some of the stronger % stuff benefits from the tiniest dribble of water to "open it up".

I was aghast, and sceptical in equal measures but I gave it a go.

Those bloody experts were correct you know, the wee splash made all the difference.

Fuck all in it is the way forward for general malts. The specialist stuff you mention I'll agree with you purely because you said experts told you. I'd still have a bash of them with fuck all in it first.

My house is called Cardhu, and I noticed in Asda there is Whisky called Cardhu.

Is it any good?

Or is it like my house being called Asda Smartprice Cola?

There's a sign for Cardhu on the road from Huntly to Aviemore.

I got given a bottle of Cardhu as a present.

I don't drink whisky.

It is not a very good for cleaning shoes.

So many whiskies out there to enjoy but have been buying a few at auction these past few years, hopefully for an investment, but wondering wonder if I should just crack open the fuckers and enjoy them?

Big fan of whisky finished in either rum or port casks, go down a treat. None of your water pish either, just enjoy it as it is.

Open and enjoy. Invest in property instead.

Buy low, sell high.

Think the majority of 'collectable' whisky will never be cracked open, it's just become too valuable.

Some of the prices certain Macallan's and even some of the Japanese whisky's go for are unbelievable. Having followed various whisky auction sites for a couple of years now the prices continue to rise and rise.

Bought myself a Balvenie 30 year old a few years back and cracked it open one new year. Was absolutely stunning and savored every drop.

The one's I've had are drinkable but nothing spectacular. I won't be buying another. The most common malt in Spain though.

good old boozer extraordinaire Michael Jackson said highland park was the best.

He must have changed his mind before he popped his clogs, his book rates several above HP 18. I do like a lot of HPs, and had a glass of a 40yo last month which was the best I've had. At £2,000 a bottle I'm surprised anyone likes me enough to share it.

Speyside all the way for me, as I don't like white spirits I've been on the whisky for quite a while now but always go back to the Spey. For everyday house drinking the Glenlivet 15 French oak reserve and the balvennie 17 double wood are just magnificent. Don't let any cunt tell you how whisky should be drunk though. I like 1 ice cube in mine but find the way you enjoy it most.

Agree. BTW I haven't drunk any cola in any form since I was 17.
