Aberdeen sack Derek McInnes

There is no argument Smith was the most successful Manager since Fergie won more trophies, had a genuine challenge for the title and on the main played superb football

The Alex Smith / Jocky Scott era was only 3 years.

Although many would file the 2nd place trophy alongside Jimmy's top six trophy it was a decent achievement to finish above the huns for a couple years

Think the bitterness is from doing a Mcinnes and not going at them on the final day albeit Hately nailing Watt didn’t help.

McCoist smashed his cheek in a 0-0, game should never have started. Boofon's at it. Andy Dibble was on loan during the cheekbone thing, then Theo came back before injuring himself again, against Hibs(?). Dibble had fucked off and the Dons were left with that dweeb Watt in goals for the biggest sliding doors moment in sports history.

As far as I remember it he was out with a shoulder injury. There had been some rumours in the press that he might be fit for it but think that was Smith trying to ease the pressure on Watt in the days leading up to it.

What I did read was the the 2 Andy Gorams (he was still with Hibs at that point) said that in the summer of 88 when Snelders had only been with us a week or so.....the SFA organised a 2 day pre-season training camp for all the Premier League goalkeepers. Snelders apparently was a bag of nerves and looked utterly horrendous. Couldn't or wouldn't hold even the gentlest of shots/crosses....everything got parried or punched. Every other 'keeper left thinking that we had signed an utter haddie

I've never heard that story about Theo, the official story was always that he was long-term injured. Whatever the truth, unfortunately the one man on there who was like a rabbit in headlights was Michael Watt (though that hateful Hun hobo Hateley could have got away with murder that day, courtesy of the usual Masonic refereeing). He was a promising keeper, but was sadly a pushover and never made the grade because of that.

As for the "best since Fergie" horse shit, can we have an exorcism on that anytime soon?! The Smith/Scott era of 1988-91 saw us play some of the best football of our history (yes, including the Fergie era) while bringing through some top youth talent, against a Rangers team full of England internationals, a Dundee United side that was not long after the UEFA Cup final and a decent calibre of Edinburgh teams. Hell, even Willie Miller's first two seasons were visually fabulous at times, against far stronger competition than McInnes has ever faced (if not for the fact we faced a Rangers side who reached the late stages of the Champions League, Miller's reign would have yielded several trophies, maybe even a league title)

Milnes love-in with McInnes is cringey as fuck. 'Best since Fergie' my fuckin arse. Best since that wee gimp took the reigns, aye. Not saying much though is it?
