People seem to forget the events of the early '90s. 

A group of Generals, with barely any support, came close to toppling the Russian government back in '91.

Gorbachev was taken hostage, martial law was declared, and tanks were shelling Russian government buildings. 

Lucky for the West, Drunken Boris (Not the British one) rode into action in a tank and saved the world from an extremist, communist military junta taking control of the world's largest nuclear stockpile and a massive military that still worked. 

If there's dissent in the Russian military, with the support of the general populace or not, it's not outside the realms of possibility that Putin gets a bullet in the heid in the not too distant future.
