And they still ended up recommending Morris.  Must be a tiny fucking database if they aren't incompetent

I’m not disagreeing that there’s a failure in the process if we’re even considering these guys as options but that is apparently how it works. Like minijc says there’s a possibility they were down the list of options but even still.
Having spoken to one of Morris’ ex team-mates a fair few of the Fleetwood players thought he wasn’t up to much so they must’ve been delighted when we came in with that offer.

Away min. The whole of Pittodrie knew Morris was shit the first time he received the ball.

Aye and that's just a shitty midset, maybe give players a chance to adapt and develop and in the process don't jump on their back from the second you think he's shit.

Morris's data was daft, I don't think he's good but at his age there's still a chance that a competent manager could get good use out of him, fuck me Robson was using him as a wing back.

You can just tell if someone has the basics or not mini.   We shouldn't be teaching players technique in their early 20s at our level.  They should have a base level way before that to be able to make it at our level.

There are players in their later 20 who still get taught technique, that's just  a shitty, old school way of thinking.  Some players don't reach their prime until nearer 30 so of course at 20-25 you can still correct things by improving on it.

Here's an idea, maybe the club should get some season ticket holders a long to the recruitment meetings and let them watch a player we want to sign receive the ball once then they can decide if we should sign them or not.

It’s difficult to judge whether a player doing well at a lower level can do the same if given a chance higher up the pyramid. For example, there is footage of morris destroying teams single-handedly but at a lower level. Against lower level opposition in cup matches for us he has looked a player (Ramirez showed this too) . That extra few seconds to control, pass, decide make all the difference . ( Ramirez was hopeless in his build up play and looked two yards short of pace - I don’t think he ever went past a defender or left a defender behind on any kind of through ball in a league match or against premiership opposition). Maybe the best scouts can see it. Brian clough famously said that the hall mark of a good player was his ability to pass accurately under pressure - the higher the standard the greater the pressure . All clubs get decisions right and wrong on transfers - choosing someone to step up in standard of league is notoriously difficult .

Is there?  Where?  He had 2 career assists and no goals.

Probably the most bizarre/ridiculous signing in our history.

The point is that you need to utilise both. The data and the eye test.

He maybe passed the test for pace and acceleration in the data but should have failed the eye test for that level of investment.

Maybe he was good in the games that they watched? 🙃

Far too much chat about interesting topics and not nearly enough terrible rumours, fake announcements, and ITK info.

Do better.

Graeme Alexander was saying the same this morning at Shot’n’Roll before getting the Number X17 bus out to Westhill.

My guess is we will keep trying for the next few weeks, but no one becomes available that we really want so we will just hand Leven the job until the end of the season and hope that potential candidates are more willing to come in nearer then

If that’s the case, then Burrows is front and centre, and hauled up for his interview last week.

Totally disagree with this min.  The very best players will be practicing their technique every day throughout their careers.  Of course, they should have the basics, but the players who spend the most hours developing and improving, are likely to become better players.
At our level we need to find the balance between all the data / software analysis and the behavioural piece.  This is were coaching and developing players on the pitch becomes so important.   We need to be able to identify players with certain data attributes and ensure we have the coaches to make them better.

Exactly

Technique can improve throughout a career, it's the definition of coaching

I had 30 secs on the transfermarkt website to know he was a punt to develop and not a player for the first 11

At a cost of circa £1 million?  Helluva fucking punt.  Whoever decided on that should be punted out the fucking door

Totally agree and specifically in the circumstances we found ourselves in.

Always felt that's where on-paper obvious coaches like Willie Miller fall down.  They don't understand why they have to explain that to 17yos who think they've made it.

(and Im aware that by his own admission Miller was never the most enthusiastic trainer)

Morris total deal was around £500k, I very much doubt we paid that all in one go, so he's probably only cost us around £300k, it's still a lot of money like.
