Beat 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4, nothing to be ashamed of, kinda good as it gives him a good rest for sw19 and he ends a fairly decent clay season.

Kind of good? What was the point in taking part to settle for a loss like that, with Nadal knocked out already?

What a chance of a slam tournament.

Doesn't Queen's start on Monday?

I like Peter Fleming (when I was a teenager, I once asked him for his autograph and he was very nice but declined saying he was off to play a match but would afterwards... I didn't linger that long though!) but he's not right about Andy not being used to playing on clay - he cut his teeth on the clay in Spain!!!

It's alway been worth betting against the British tennis player in the UK, as they're prices are usually incorrect - their opponents are alway very generously priced, as the bookies attempt to balance their books.

I fancy Gonzales tomorrow on two counts:

(1) Murray is due a bad game on Clay, and

(2) Quite simply, I believe Gonzales is the better player on Clay. On clay, he's just outside Federer, Nadal & Djokovic.

I'm tempted to ask for a quote on a Gonzales vs The Pony Final....

Called it.

Gonzales was f**king awesome out there! Gutted for Murray, but that was something very special. What a player - really hope he can win the whole thing, a player of his talent should have a french Open... but then you'd probably say the same for Federer. Should be a great semi-final, if Soderling continues his recent form he'll be tough to beat. The only worry I have regarding Gonzales, are his legs at 28 years of age.

That's apparently a myth. So they were saying on the radio this morn.

Didn't play on clay as much as everyone is led to believe. If he did,he'd probably do alot better.

It'll have been on the hard courts, like those rubbery tar ones, that seems to be his best surface when playing.

LS, from my point of view it is kinda good, had he went all the way and eventually won this slam he'd have been ruined for Queens (if he is playing?) then had poor prep for Wimbledon.

Who gives a f@ck about Queens Club? Its a two bob knock-around before Wimbledon and means nothing; on the other hand who was the last Singles British men's player to win a Grand Slam tournament? (And when?)

It's not a myth. The courts at his school in Spain were predominantly clay. Andys game just doesn't match up on clay. As a defensive player on a slow surface like clay, your going to struggle against the top guys who make better use of the greater length of time they have to make the shot.

On the hardcourts, Andys return of service is so good, that they're back across the net before his opponent has had a chance to compose themselves. Andys game is all about forcing errors, which works incredibly well on fast surfaces. On the other hand, to be successful on Clay you need to be more agressive and make more winners -its harder to generate a forced error.

Fred Perry, year 1936 was it?

Well worked out. Now don't you think addressing that momentous amount of time since we last won one is more important than "being fit enough for Queens?". I wouldn't care if he went out in the 2nd round at Wimbledon if he'd got a Slam tourney this week.

They were defo saying that on Talksport. Am positive it was Jeremy Bates they were interviewing about him and stated something to do with during a large time he was in Spain he was injured so hardly played on clay. He seems to have big enough strokes for clay but I find he tries not to make much unforced errors therefore nae going for the big winners like Gonzalez does all the time with that forehand.

Fair enough, don't mis quote me though or I'll sue, I never said i wanted him fit for Queens, also I'd rather he won Wimbledon than this french open.

We're not in a position to choose Slams we would rather him win.

I do actually - it's a cracking wee tournament, although not so wee as it was when I used to go. It's been over-commercialised now, but it's the first one I ever attended (ticket prices

I never said I wanted him fit for queens though, you are right howevere a slam is a slam anywill do but I would rather it was Wimbledon or US tournament.

why? a slam's a slam and with Nadal out, this was a perfect opportunity to win one. Thought he played sh*te today, huge disappointment.

He's still young though, I just hope he doesn't get a reputation as a bottler.

A slam tournament over Queens Club?

That's like going to watch the Tennents 6's compared to the SPL.

(But it is quite a good wee tournament if you like your tennis and want to get up close with some of the major stars)

Did I say it was better than the slams? You asked who gives a toss about Queen's and I replied I do.

I think you need to pay more attention to it (take a tube to Baron's Court - it's easy to get to for you) - most of the best grass-courters play in it. They can't all be wrong. And yes, it is good to get to see the players close up, which is why I no longer go to Wimbledon. It's far too crowded and unless you're about 6'5" or have one of the show court tickets, it's a struggle to see as much tennis as you'd like on the outside courts. Trying to peer round crowds 4-thick lost its appeal quite some time ago... that's having got up at God knows what hour and queueing for hours on end (I'm not exaggerating - the last time I went, it was 5 and a half hours) to get in.

Great tournament, and go and soak up the atmosphere if you've never been, but I'm happier to watch at home now.
