Putin is trying to re-establish historic boundaries based upon geostrategic chokepoints, ostensibly to secure the Russian Federation from outside incursion. But also because he's an expansionist midget fuck. 

The problem lies in the fact that Ukraine ISN'T one of those geostrategic chokepoints. Ukraine is merely in the way of them. 

Let's say Putin seizes all of Ukraine... all that means is the job isn't finished from his perspective, and he then moves onto the next stage after a period of rearmament. So, another invasion, another war, closer to the Western states, and a far higher chance of a major war. 

The West is united for the first time in decades because if we're going to stop Putin it needs to be now. The fact that these states ARE united should tell us how serious the situation could become. 

And if the FRENCH are sending military equipment that should remove all doubt as to that seriousness.
