Darvel 1 - 0 Aberdeen

2 things I noticed about last night:

Darvel player made a pass straight to McCrorie's chest.

It just bounced off him and went back to the Darvel player. No control from McCrorie whatsoever, like he was a wooden post.

And Coulson coming off and him and Goodwin completely ignoring each other.

Half the squad clearly don't like JG, and one of the downsides to a young squad is that they'll let that affect their performances. Immature attitudes, and Goodwin doesn't know how to deal with them.

It's a toxic environment when the players know that losing might mean they get a new boss.

The verdicts.....

Lewis - totally let down by those in front of him. Did what was expected if him.

Scales - played with the defensive prowess of a new-born baby kangaroo. His attempts at passing were embarrassingly inept. Bye bye, Liam.

Stewart - a fucking con-artist and wage thief. Whoever the scout was that recognised him as a professional footballer should be sentenced to death by the firing squad. His lack of leadership and basic footballing skills are a true reflection of where we are as a club. Just fuck off, Anthony.

Coulson - simply does not have the physicality for being employed as a defender. Far too lightweight and inconsistent. Cheerio, Hayden.

Clarkson - only shows up for about 5 minutes of a match. Goes missing for the other 85+ minutes. A mercenary. When dies the next train leave Joint Station for Lime Street Station?

Ramadani - his fitness levels are as good as a punctured tyre. Look shattered after just 10 minutes yesterday. A squad player at best, providing, of course, he is willing to vastly improve his fitness.

McCrorie - shoehorned out of position into the side like a boys club coach's pet. No passion, no fight, no guile, totally out of his depth. Does not give two fucks about Aberdeen. Rip up his contract immediately.

Myslovic - early days but the signs are not positive. Only uses his right foot to stand on and his decision-making is extremely poor.

Duk - started brightly but after 15 minutes was running about as though he was pulling a snow plough. His fitness levels are unbelievably poor and shocking for a full-time professional footballer. Totally anonymous, apart from a tame header in the second half. Controversial I know, as he is fan's favourite, but his body language last night was very suspect. Must do far better.

Kennedy - his set-piece deliveries were very good and at least he showed some fight last night. Used as a pawn and a scapegoat by Goodwin yet again, as again, should not have been hooked.

Duncan - showed plenty of endeavour and good touches last night and was head and shoulders above his senior colleagues in terms of effort and passion.

Subs:

Hayes - showed more in his 25 odd minutes on the pitch than the vast majority of his teammates collectively exhibited in the entire match. Some lovely passes and touches, and was wrongly denied a penalty.

Miovski - flattered to deceive. Got into some good positions, including for the chopped off goal, but failed to do much of note at all. At least he tried and showed some passion. Goal wrongly chopped off.

Besuijen - his attitude was reminiscent of a kid being refused 20p for the local ice-cream van by his old man. Started the season very well but simply does not want to be at Aberdeen anymore, if his body language last night is anything to go by. Goodwin's lack of people management skills has not helped though. His performance was a 1/10 at a push.

Roberts - no comment.

Fucking this^^

However, I'm still a fan of Besuijen and Duk.

They're both great players in the right team with the correct attitide.

There's a disease there at the moment and it's affecting all of them.

That's a very fair analytical point min. Earlier on in the season, the combination of Besuijen and Duk, as well as the pairing of Besuijen and Miovski, worked a treat, especially at home, hence the performances and results.

Unfortunately, as you quite rightly highlight, they are being affected by the rabid and contagious AFC disease which has been infiltrating the corridors of Pittodrie for close-on 30 years.

Duk's never been the same since he got hacked on the calf by that St Mirren thug before Xmas.

He's been carrying a knock ever since.

Goodwin has obviously got it in for Vinnie, and his stunning decisions to use Morris before him in a sequence of games should have had him instantly sacked there and then.

Vinnie digs his own grave with that shit last night.

Looked to add something for all of 5 minutes but then swanned about for the following 40+.

We didn't want the physical battle.

Hard to disagree with most of that. Played like a team that had only met each other before kick-off. Don’t recall anyone shouting out orders or trying to encourage their fellow team-mates. Obvious there’s disharmony there, but for what reason?

Stewart when left to the job of defending can be solid enough but every other element of his game is woeful, epitomised by his aimless punt in the final minute that went straight to a Darvel player. Scales looks absolutely devoid of confidence.

Clarkson was anonymous but again but we probably expect too much from the lad. Certainly capable but still very raw and inconsistent.

Myslovic, that ones on Goodwin to explain why he thrust him into the starting line-up at the expense of Shinnie. Can only hope it was because he had a knock as otherwise it shows a complete lack of self-awareness for his own tenable position. Surely if you’re a manager under pressure you don’t take chances in a game like this which could (and has) scar your reputation.

Duncan I’m afraid was nowhere near it, gave away possession numerous times but wasn’t alone in that respect. McCrorie being a serial offender too.

Duk cut a frustrated figure which is understandable given the lack of service. A hungry player would see this tie as a chance to up his goal tally but he never made much effort to get involved. Miovski did at least get into some decent positions but suffered the same drought of quality balls.

Hayes the only player of note who can probably say he tried to make things happen.

Collectively though, we allowed ourselves to get shown up by a side languishing in the minor leagues. Complete embarrassment for the club, the players, the fans and management alike which will be an indelible stain on the club for years to come.

Thanks for that AFC! :clangers2:

This whole event stems from the club, players, and the supporters all having a vastly over-inflated opinion of where Aberdeen fit in Scottish football. Basically, we are just a run of the mill club with a bit of history, with little or no ability, nothing else. Sooner we realise it the better.

This is the sad reality.

There's a lot of truth in what you say...

I remember Gunn saying that they would watch the same player in numerous types of games, ones they were winning/losing, good/bad opposition and open and tight games.

Fuck knows how any of that lot passed those tests. There's no doubt in my mind that we are physically the weakest team in our league. In a country where we get very little protection from referees we need to stop signing players who can give fleeting glimpses of being decent on the ball but then completely shite themselves any time someone puts in a strong tackle. Out the 15 that played, only 3 showed that for me and 2 of them didn't come from this new scouting process.

Darvel were up for the fight, we weren't and unfortunately there has been far too many games over the years that you can say that about.

Saw a story it’s like Spurs gettin beat by some wank team! No it’s not

In terms of finances it's like Celtic losing to Clyde in 2006, on paper it's much worse because they are the 6th tier but they have at least 5-6 ex pros in their team. Not that should take anything away from how bad we played and how we really should have beat them. Thinking Goodwin has gotten away with it, if Hibs beat us with their equally terrible manager I think that would be the nail in the coffin for Goodwin. Unless of course it is just too expensive to get rid of him in which case you can only hope this is rock bottom and the only way is up.

What got me was that the pitch was perfect (prefer Pitch Perfect 2 myself) for playing football on - we could have no excuses about any farmers fields etc. yet we still managed not to win this game.

Clarkson needs time to fill out, he is too slight of stature for Scottish football.

Ramadani was poor last night, but then, the same could be said about t a lot of them as we didn't manage to beat Darvel.
