“Having recently retired from a successful business career in banking and finance, Willie will bring both commercial acumen and football knowledge to the board and provide valuable input and advice as we look to execute and deliver on the Club’s strategy.”

He’s here to help try and raise money for the new stadium clearly

If he put a quid in every time he said “y’know” we’d be able to have a stadium like Bayern Munich’s in a month.

He was a pension advisor at Scottish widows. Folk would phone in wanting pensions. He’s not going to he able to raise 7 quid for a football stadium.

Cormack doesn't have better connections to raise stadium funds than Willie Garner?

He maybe has connections to people who would be able to though. He must be bringing something to the table before he’s been appointed to the board

If he’s bringing anything it won’t be financially.

I thought he had a company that went into workplaces to advise older staff about retirement planning and arranging wills.

Maybe the secret devious plan is to catch all those unsuspecting older people with declining brain function and huge pensions to leave all their money to the Dons ??

Seriously though, I'm not sure exactly what he brings in terms of business side of things, seems like he is just a nice guy who cares about the club and is good friends with DC. I think DC has maybe brought him in on boards as he thinks he is a down to earth guy who speaks normally with everyday people so might connect better with the fans than some of the others who are on the board. If he gets Willie to tell people that the future plans are good they might believe him more than when Wicks and himself talk as most people think they are just bullshitting.

I think Cormack still thinks it's the 80s. The majority of folk under 40 would have known nothing about Garner til he started comms on RedTV.

It's not like they've put Willie Miller on the board.

Exactly this, Cormack loves a bit of nostalgia.

Shame that's about all he offers.

Couple of terrific Italian youngsters on loan will be just the ticket

In two minds about this.  Great if we can get a couple of decent players in on loan but the way the modern game is going in general thoroughly depresses me.  We will be just one of 15 clubs to be used by Juve.   Unbelievable that they have 120 players across their first team and under 23 sides.  43 of which are currently loaned out.

Or equally it could be like the Atlanta tie up, where they chuck shite players at us just to see if they're any good and to see if they sink or swim.

(They sink).

These 'tie ups' with other clubs have never, ever had any benefit for Aberdeen. It's just another ego trip for Cormack.

Aye we've not done well on that front so far. I'd be more excited about taking players in the Juventus setup/radar than the Atlanta one however.

The Atlanta link has benefited us from a fan engagement perspective.

Haha.

Has it?  How come?

I think the Atlanta link has irritated the fans more than anything.

And much of the good work around fan engagement is down to the work of the Trust, nae Atlanta

The ball room event is common in the MLS and other tailgating areas. Idea is directly from the MLS.
