Just finished three books by Russian authors...

A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich... about the third or fourth time I've read it. Could be boring to some, personally thought it was one of the best books I've ever read.

We Never Make Mistakes... Absolute shite from start to finish. Avoid.

The Long Walk... recently turned into a fillum. Good book, worth reading, and if true then it's one of the greatest escape stories ever. (Not to be confused with the Stephen King pish of the same name)

On holiday I read/finished:

Iain Banks - Transition

Was close to finishing this novel before I went away, I prefer taking a "new" book away with me but decided to finish this as well. Not a bad novel, nowhere near as good as The Wasp Factory though! - 6/10

Philip K Dick - Man In The High Castle

A classic novel. Read it in a few days, after reading Do Anderoids Dream of Electric Sheep I felt a bit disappointed by this one. It's set in an alternative world where the war was won by the Germans. - 6/10

Sebastion Faulkes - Birdsong

Really enjoyed this one, I thought that he was able to describe the horrors of the First World War beautifully. - 8/10

Birdsong really takes you there right enough.Being a Tunneler must have been akin to a being a Submariner during a depth charging.

A strange start to the book mind you,I thought it was going to be a porn novel.

Got to agree with Birdsong - had it recommended to me about 12 years ago and gave it a read. First couple of hundred pages and thought I was reading a bloody romance. Toiled through though and turned out to be an absolute cracker. One of my top twenty ever I'd say.

Normally read only non-fiction - usually war history, maritime history or astronomy / cosmology. For some weird reason though I picked out "The Complete Works of Jules Verne" the other day on my Kindle - 36 books for $2.99! Haven't been able to put it down Fan-fuckin'-tastic. I recommend taking a big leap sideways from the norm for everyone from time to time.

I'd get a Kindle, but I'm in the habit of buying my books out of the charity shops, then returning them, that is apart from any of Tranter's,I collect those fuckers.

I picked up a book called "The Eye of War"for something like
