I am now away to put my head in the oven and be done with it as I cannot handle being fed this complete and utter shite anymore. Surely the afterlife is better than what we are currently being subjected to. 

 

It isn't rocket science. It also isn't new (in coronavirus terms)....they've known about the South African and Brazilian mutations since about October/November. The rapidity with which covid is mutating there will already be further new strains

And as I said about a week ago.....in spite of the platitudes presented in the news, the majority of virologists are fairly certain already that any of the current vaccines in circulation (or even still in development) won't be effective against them. And the evidence looks pretty strong that even the Kent strain won't be covered. The scientists think they can "tweak" the current vaccines slightly and they then will be effective against them without requiring a new trialling regime, but you would be looking at a minimum of 6 months for that to come online. But this virus is mutating at a rate of once every 8 weeks or so......17 strains at the last count, it'll be at least 20 by early summer.

Don't expect a return to any sort of normality any time soon

Pretty much in stark contrast what is being reported about the current vaccines being effective against the new strains, maybe less so but effective none the less. Also a bit of good news about the AZ vaccine “substantially” reducing the ability for transmission. I’m pretty sure that information is coming from scientific journals published on the lancet.

Reduced effectiveness against mutations would be expected when the vaccine is designed with one specific strain in mind. 

It would have to be a pretty radical mutation to render the vaccine worthless.

I've said the vaccines will not be effective against the SA and Brazilian strains. And likely not against the Kent strain. I haven't said anything orherwise

What is being fed out to the public is not what the vast majority of virologists are saying. If Boris came out and said on one of his tv updates..."oh by the way, the vaccines we are administering right now aren't effective against the new strains".....what do you think would happen to the uptake?
